This time, we'll go discover some great destinations in Surabaya, Malang and Batu, all of which are within the East Java region of the island of Java. Besides the already well-known active volcano, Mount Bromo, East Java is also home to some unique and creative tourist attractions. Museum Angkut, the first transportation-themed museum in South East Asia is where fans of automobiles will find hundreds of cars, ranging from the early 1900s Ford models right to the modern electric ones. An example of sheer creativity is Kampung Warna Warni Malang, where a slum, destined to be torn down, was saved by a group of university students and went on to become a vibrant, colourful (quite literally) and tourist-beckoning settlement. Flower lovers, on the other hand, would definitely not want to miss Santerra de Laponte, a gorgeous flower park that is reminiscent of the ones found in Europe. Coban Rondo waterfall, one of several in East Java, is a popular spot to relax and unwind while taking in the beauty of the place.

Often being in the shadows of other touristic destinations on the island of Java; the vibrant city of Jakarta, the refreshing city of Bandung or the sun-drenched neighbouring island of Bali for example, Surabaya and its surroundings is certainly a major tourist destination in its own right. Assalamualaikum warahmatullah wabarakatuh. Hi and hello to everyone. Before we know it, we've already entered the last third of the holy month of Ramadhan. How time really flies. Soon, it will be the fall of the curtain for the blessed Ramadhan this year. May Allah accept all our deeds that were done for His sake, InsyaAllah.

Our first Turkish trip last year (one of several post Covid-19 trips we had and would share later) went on without a hitch and again we would like to thank all of our 30 odd Freshtrippers who made it happen. 12 days of witnessing the wonders and charms of the bicontinental nation left us feeling eager to discover even more of what Turkey (or Turkiye, as the country wishes to be known now) has to offer. For that purpose, we've actually scheduled another Turkish trip in May this year, the itinerary of which covers several new cities. But alas, it has been written that a terrible earthquake would strike Turkiye on the 6th of February this year, the magnitude of which measured as among one of the most devastating to ever occur in the Anatolian region. With the death toll numbering almost 58000 across Turkiye and neighbouring Syria, this was truly one of the most serious humanitarian crises in recent years. Our supposed Turkish trip was to include some cities that unfortunately, turn out to lie within the earthquake zone: Sanliurfa and Gaziantep are two examples. With many affected cities taking a significant amount of time to rebuild themselves, we felt that it would only be appropriate to put aside our scheduled trip for the time being. It would be better (and more rewarding) to see more of Turkiye when the wounds have somewhat healed.

While Turkiye slowly gets back on its feet, a previously often overlooked travel region has been quietly making it mark. Particularly blessed with beautiful landscapes, the Balkan region has actually for some time, been attracting a significant amount of travellers. Much like Turkiye itself which lies just east, the countries making up the region are also steeped in history, with many old structures, either still serving its purpose or now lying in ruins, offering a glimpse of its past. In fact, much of the Balkan was a part of the Ottoman empire, the predecessor of the modern Turkish state, and that resulted in the widespread existence of traces of Ottoman influence, most notably its mosques and bazaars, among others. While a major part of the region was embroiled in the early to mid-90s Balkan wars, which saw the worst atrocities being committed in Europe since the Second World War, the Balkan region has since risen from the ashes, putting its bloody past behind. These days, natural beautiful landscapes, historic buildings, well-preserved or reconstructed structures from the war era all combine to define the region as a truly rewarding travel destination.

[Al Haneenah Freshtrips - Where Next?]

Assalamualaikum warahmatullah wabarakatuh. Hello everyone. It's definitely been such a long time since our last post, what with all that's been going on these last few years. Yes, the Covid-19 pandemic has changed everyone's lives and we are no exception. While the worst may be over, we're still not out of the woods and constant vigilance is certainly necessary. We're certainly grateful to Allah SWT for allowing us to still be around. That being said, allow us to extend our sorry, regret and sympathy to anyone out there who has been severely impacted by the pandemic, directly or otherwise.

With the world progressively opening up again as we speak, it's time to get reacquainted with it and rediscover its beauty, old or new. The pandemic has certainly been a bane for everyone but it's truly heartening to see people still travelling and not allowing the virus to slow them down. Let's hope 2023 will be the beginning of a lasting period of stability as there is still so much to see, to experience and to discover.

Al Haneenah Freshtrips would like to thank each and everyone out there who has been with us all along. With the beginning of another year, we certainly would like to know more of you out there. To start the year off, InsyaAllah, there will be another trip to Aceh and, unlike our previous trips, we will also be visiting two neighbouring regencies; Aceh Tengah and Bener Meriah. These two destinations may be somewhat unfamiliar, but they certainly aren't without any attractions. So if you're curious about them, mark the dates 9th - 15th February 2023.

The next one really has got us excited. InsyaAllah, on the 5th - 17th March 2023 we'll be having our first ever spring Pakistan trip. Yes, Pakistan has lately been high on many people's travel list and from what we learned, the country truly amazes! Contrary to many people's belief concerning the security and the general appeal of Pakistan, the country is perfectly safe with all of its charms just waiting to be discovered. This is in addition to its excellent food and friendly people which simply makes it too good to be missed. So why don't you put that concern to rest and discover what this part of the world is really like.

Assalamualaikum warahmatullah wabarakatuh. Al Haneenah Freshtrips would like to wish all Muslims a happy Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2020 / 1441 H. No doubt this year will see a very different Raya for many, with most of us confined to celebrating at home. Yes, it may be somewhat subdued this time around, but of course, the spirit of Aidilfitri will always be there and there should be no reason to be any less cheerful. We hope it has been a meaningful Ramadhan to everyone, now that the holy month has drawn its curtain. May we see many more Ramadhan in the coming years, InsyaAllah.

In light of the recent developments concerning the efforts to contain the spread of the novel Covid 19 virus in Malaysia, in addition to restrictive measures undertaken by the Turkish government, we would like to announce that our Turkish trip, scheduled from 31st March to 15th April 2020 has been indefinitely postponed. We would like to apologise to everyone affected by this, directly or otherwise.

Please be assured that this trip will still take place as and when the situation has improved, InsyaAllah. We would like to thank all who have shown interest in this trip. Unexpected this may be, we believe that this development is also a blessing in disguise as this will certainly allow those who could not make it initially, to join this trip later.
