Cheah Kongsi Penang One of the oldest Hokkien Clan Associations in George Town, Penang.

Our routine inspection brought us to Bagan Dalam, Butterworth, a historic place where our ancestors first set foot in this part of the world, holds great significance. Originally known as "Prince of Wales Island" before the name changed to Penang, it was here that the idea of setting up a communal organization was conceived.

We are fortunate to come into contact with the offspring of the original tenants. This relic evokes a sense of nostalgia, reminding us of the hardships our ancestors endured and overcame. It should be preserved for future generations to appreciate and understand their legacy.

We had the distinct honour of hosting former Thailand Foreign Minister His Excellency Dr. Kantathi Suphamongkorn, his family, and personnel from the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Penang. It was a privilege to guide them through our historic Cheah clan house, one of Penang's most treasured heritage sites.

Our guests were deeply impressed by the intricate architecture and rich history of our Kongsi, reflecting the vibrant cultural heritage of the Peranakan Chinese community. Sharing this cultural gem with such distinguished visitors was an enriching experience that fostered a deeper connection between our communities.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to His Excellency Dr. Kantathi Suphamongkorn and the personnel from the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Penang for their visit and look forward to welcoming them again in the future.

Our joyous moment came after capturing 2nd and 3rd place in the recent Federation of Chia Annual Bowling Competition Year 2024. This youth event was filled with excitement and camaraderie as our talented young bowlers showcased their skills and teamwork. The dedication and hard work they put into practice truly paid off, making us proud.

We celebrated with a small ceremony, awarding medals and taking memorable photos. This achievement not only highlights our youth’s potential but also strengthens our community spirit. A big thank you to everyone who supported and cheered us on.
