What is the best dive knife?
Probably not the enormous knife strapped to your leg that most people picture.
A dive knife is an emergency tool. For me, particularly for cave and technical diving, the priorities are simple: small, safe, sharp and easy to reach.
I've put together a complete guide comparing dive knives, line cutters and diving shears, including what I personally use, where I carry it and what I'd recommend for recreational, cave and technical divers.

One thing I've come to believe after years of teaching cave diving in Tulum is that divers shouldn't be rushed through certifications.
A certification card is only valuable if it's backed up by genuine confidence, solid judgement, and calm decision-making in the cave environment.
That's why I've completely redesigned my IANTD Cave Diving Training Pathway.
Instead of treating every course as a separate product, I've built a structured progression that develops skills layer by layer—from sidemount and Intro to Cave, through Full Cave, and into advanced technical cave development.
Every stage builds on the last. The emphasis is always on control, awareness, precision, and becoming a capable cave diver, not simply collecting certifications.
If you're considering cave diving training in Tulum, have a look at the new page and, if you have any questions, send me a message. I'd be happy to help you decide which pathway is right for your experience and goals.
