Study and experimentation of mixed media on watercolour paper sketchbook.

On this study, I practiced masking, there were not any leaks but I did miss covering some spots so I learned to be extra careful about where I am taping. Masking fluid around the edges of the drawing makes the perfect seal! However when removing the tapes, I tore some paper underneath… I have to be sure that it won’t happen with the other proper paper.

I practiced my colour mixing (thought this is easy mode) , drawing and observation skills. Refining my technique of using the dip pen to paint. I also practice on my patience and perseverance. Excited to start planning on the bigger piece but first, some side quests.

🇲🇽Estudio y experimentación con técnica mixta en un cuaderno de dibujo con papel para acuarela.

En este estudio practiqué el uso de líquido de enmascarar; no hubo filtraciones, pero sí olvidé cubrir algunas zonas, así que aprendí a prestar mucha más atención a dónde coloco la cinta. ¡El líquido de enmascarar en los bordes del dibujo crea un sellado perfecto! Sin embargo, al retirar la cinta, arranqué parte del papel que estaba debajo... Debo asegurarme de que esto no ocurra cuando utilice el papel definitivo.

Practiqué la mezcla de colores (aunque esto fue de nivel básico), así como mis habilidades de dibujo y observación. Estoy perfeccionando la técnica de pintar con plumilla. También trabajé la paciencia y la perseverancia. Me entusiasma empezar a planificar la obra de mayor formato, pero antes, toca completar algunas «misiones secundarias».

I’ve put in the extra effort of resizing my artworks to make sure the fishes fit nicely in their sizes, highest DPI (I am deathly allergic to pixelated images), and good quality paper. I did not include all of my artwork but please drop me a DM if you are interested in something else that is not available in the shop.

As I mentioned in many posts, I vow to always give back a portion of my proceeds to helping Earth heal and for this month, it will be towards an organisation called “International Animal Rescue Crisis” International Animal Rescue to help aid in the forest fire that is burning in Indonesia 🔥 If you have any other organisations in mind, please dm me.

My second experiment to the technique I’m currently exploring. This sketch was inspired when chatting with a Mexican artist, Angel Hernández Ramírez and we were discussion on a collab featuring birds from Malaysia and Mexico. We are very excited to show you the finished product later in October!

I think it’s so funny that my “side quest” gave me a 1 minute of shine because I gained over 2k followers from my reel and a lot of words of encouragement and support from strangers in the internet. I called my dad and we had a good laugh about it. I am so grateful and happy to see the kindness in everyone, pushing each other to support their dreams and to never give up. So from the bottom of my heart, thank you 🥲🫡🙇🏻‍♀️

🇲🇽Esta es mi segunda prueba con la técnica que estoy explorando actualmente. La idea de este boceto surgió mientras conversaba con un artista mexicano, Angel Hernández Ramírez, sobre una colaboración que incluirá aves de Malasia y México. ¡Nos hace mucha ilusión mostrarles el resultado final a finales de octubre!

Me parece muy curioso que esta «aventura secundaria» me haya dado un momento de gran visibilidad: gané más de 2000 seguidores gracias a mi *Reel* y recibí muchísimos mensajes de ánimo y apoyo de desconocidos en internet. Llamé a mi papá y nos reímos mucho de la situación. Me siento muy agradecida y feliz de ver la amabilidad de la gente, cómo nos animamos mutuamente a perseguir nuestros sueños y a no rendirnos nunca. Así que, desde lo más profundo de mi corazón: gracias 🥲🫡🙇🏻‍♀️

Desde el sur de Bután, el noreste de la India y Bangladés, a través de la parte continental del Sudeste Asiático hasta Indonesia, donde se limita a Sumatra, Java, Borneo y algunas islas menores. Se ha registrado hasta una altitud de 2560 m (8400 pies).

Entre las principales amenazas para las poblaciones de cálao gorgirrugoso se encuentran la caza, el uso de pesticidas, la tala ilegal y la fragmentación del hábitat. Esta especie figura en la Lista Roja de la UICN como vulnerable desde 2018, ya que es probable que dichas amenazas provoquen un descenso de su población mundial en un futuro próximo.

Current Project: Amphiprion.

I’ve finished 13 out of 30 species of Amphiprion, aka Nemo’s family. Did you know that there are 30 (known) different brothers and sisters of this family all around the world? In my entire diving career, I’ve only seen about 4-5… I remember taking them for granted because I saw them daily when I started diving in Borneo and My instructor said “dude, some places don’t even have them” . I did not believe him until I realised that I miss seeing nemos. I squealed so hard when I saw them again years later in Indo. There is one particular A.Clarkii that is in Palau that likes to bite my finger…

I don’t consider myself an academic person, words bore me fast and I find it really hard to retain informations. (I was horrible at school) But when I read that there were 30 diff types of anemonefish, I wanted to know them all and the best way for me was to draw them. By drawing them, it allows me to focus on their key features and pattern distinctions. While researching, I was often confused because they look so alike! For example, A.polymnus and A. Latezonatus, the middle band for Latezonatus is wider than the “tear dropped” band that Polymnus has. I will make more comparisons for this on another post!

I want to help educate people about the little wonders of our ocean and I hope to do that through my art, making it easier for visual learners like me. Sharks, Whales and Mantas are great but WHAT ABOUT THE TINY LITTLE FISHIES?! Sorry, macros deserve so much more love and I have a goal to tell you what a Frogfish is and that there are 5 types of Stonefishes!…. Anyway, for this particular project, I am exploring colour pencils as my medium. I can’t wait to finish the rest! 🧡
