On March 24, 2026, Chisomo Youth Organization, in partnership with Bwiba Primary School in Karonga District, successfully conducted a tree-planting initiative, planting approximately 20 trees across the school grounds.
This initiative serves as a proactive response to the escalating challenges of climate change, which have increasingly impacted both global and local environments. Given the environmental volatility observed during the current rainy season, this collaboration underscores a shared commitment to reforestation and building ecological resilience within the community.

We are proud to have participated in CRIC 23, where global partners reflected on urgent environmental challenges such as land degradation, climate change, floods, droughts, and biodiversity loss.

The conference strongly emphasized the need for meaningful youth and women inclusion in environmental decision-making.
Chisomo Youth Organisation was also honoured to be part of the UNCCD Drynet Mentorship Programme, a 12-month initiative supporting young environmental leaders. Our Executive Director is participating as a mentee, strengthening skills in advocacy, leadership, and climate governance.

We remain committed to empowering youth and promoting sustainable environmental action from community to global level.

On behalf of Chisomo Youth Organization, the Executive Director and the Programmes Officer attended the BASICS for Formulating a Funding Proposal Training under 2, held at Mzuzu Hotel in Mzuzu.

The 2 days training came with practical skills and new techniques for developing strong, fundable proposals that respond effectively to donor priorities. This knowledge will strengthen our capacity to mobilize resources and scale up impactful youth-led interventions in our communities.

We are grateful for the opportunity and look forward to applying the lessons learned to advance youth empowerment and community development.

16 DAYS OF ACTIVISM AGAINST GENDER - BASED VIOLENCE

As an organization we understand how terrible GBV is and how it affects a community at large.
We have delt with cases where women are more victims and we have seen how it affects families especially children.
We join hands with all stakeholders in the fight against GBV.

Most don’t report it due to fear or being seen as a weakling.
Our main plea in this fight is to our Police, open your arms to welcome and bring justice to the victims of any type of GBV. People should not complain of not being helped when they report the abuse in your offices. Do not make them feel less human.

As the Director of CYO, I had the honour of representing Malawi at the Pan-African Youth Forum, jointly organized by the Pan-African Youth Union (PYU) and the African Union Commission (AUC) in Djibouti City.
The forum brought together youth leaders, government representatives, and development partners from across the African continent to discuss youth engagement in sustainable development and reparative justice.
During the forum, I participated in several plenary and breakout sessions focusing on:
• Strengthening youth participation in policy and governance;
• The role of youth in driving sustainable and inclusive economic growth;
• Addressing historical injustices and promoting equity through reparative justice;
• Building strong partnerships between youth organizations and continental bodies.
I had the opportunity to share Malawi’s experiences and highlight the work being done by the Chisomo Youth Organization and other youth-led initiatives that empower young people in community development, climate action, and social justice.
The forum also created valuable networking opportunities with fellow youth leaders from across Africa, fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange on youth-driven development programs.
I express sincere gratitude to the National Youth Council of Malawi for the nomination and to the Pan-African Youth Union and the African Union Commission for their support and facilitation. The knowledge and networks gained from this forum will greatly contribute to ongoing youth empowerment efforts in Malawi.

Turning Waste into Sustainable Energy: Chisomo Youth Organization's Briquette Production Initiative

Chisomo Youth Organization is committed to promoting environmental sustainability through innovative, youth-led solutions. As part of our ongoing efforts to recycle waste into valuable resources, we have launched a new program focused on the production of eco-friendly briquettes from agricultural by-products such as rice husks and groundnut (peanut) shells.

The project not only addresses waste management challenges but also contributes to clean energy access by providing an alternative to traditional charcoal. Progress is well underway, and we are excited to announce that our briquettes will soon be available on the market.

In addition to production, the program aims to engage and train interested individuals and communities in briquette-making techniques—both manual and machine-based—to foster skills development, entrepreneurship, and sustainable livelihoods.
