⚽️ Grassroots & Youth Football Festival 2026 – Laamu Fonadhoo 🏆

What a fantastic two days of grassroots football, community spirit and youth participation! The festival concluded with the finals on Saturday, 22 August 2026, bringing together young players from QM Sports Academy, Fonadhoo, and Laamu Apex Sports Academy from Gan and Maamendhoo.

It was wonderful to see players, parents and supporters from different communities come together, celebrate football and create lasting memories. ❤️⚽️

A special thank you to the Maldives Pension Administration Office for funding this project under the Grant Cycle 2025/2026, and to Bison, Dhiraagu, Laamu Fonadhoo Council and Fonadhoo Health Centre for their valuable support.

Our sincere appreciation to our association partner Laamu Youth Development (LYD), the organising committee, referees, coaches, volunteers, parents and everyone who contributed to making this festival a success.

This festival was the final activity of the project, which will officially close at the end of August 2026.

Grassroots and Youth Football Festival – Project Closing Activity

The Grassroots and Youth Football Festival was successfully held in Laamu Fonadhoo over two days, culminating in the final and closing ceremony on Saturday, 22 August 2026. The festival was implemented as the final activity of the project funded by the Maldives Pension Administration Office under its Grant Cycle 2025/2026, providing young players with an opportunity to participate in organised football while promoting healthy lifestyles, teamwork, inclusion and community engagement.

The festival brought together young players from QM Sports Academy in Fonadhoo and Laamu Apex Sports Academy from Gan and Maamendhoo, creating an excellent platform for children from different communities across Laamu Atoll to meet, compete and build friendships through football. The participation of players, parents and supporters from the different communities added a strong community spirit to the festival and contributed significantly to its success.

The final and closing ceremony was attended by the Chief Guest, the CEO of Bison, together with officials from Maattey Sports, including the President, General Secretary and Co-founder. The valuable support of Dhiraagu, Laamu Fonadhoo Council and Fonadhoo Health Centre played a key role in the successful implementation of the festival and the project as a whole.

As the final project activity, the festival marked an important milestone in the completion of the project’s objectives and activities. Following the completion of the remaining reporting and administrative requirements, the project will be officially closed at the end of August 2026.

⚽️🌱 Grassroots & Youth Football Festival officially underway in Laamu Fonadhoo! 🇲🇻

Despite the early morning bad weather, the spirit of football could not be stopped! 🌧️⚽️

The Grassroots & Youth Football Festival officially got underway this morning in Laamu Fonadhoo. The event was scheduled to begin at 6:30 AM, but due to the weather conditions, the start was delayed by approximately 45 minutes.

The delay did little to dampen the enthusiasm, with all participating teams from Fonadhoo, Maamendhoo and Gan, together with their parents, families and community supporters, turning up in great numbers. ❤️⚽️

The festival features U9 and U13 categories, with a total of 12 exciting group-stage matches being played. The top teams will then progress to the semifinals, which will be played on Friday afternoon, followed by the finals on Saturday afternoon. 🏆🔥

This festival is organised by Maattey Sports as part of the Building Resilient and Inclusive Communities project, made possible through a grant from the Maldives Pension Administration Office.

On 22nd May 2026, we successfully concluded the Coaching Enhancement Camp held in Laamu Fonadhoo under the Pension Office Project Cycle 2025. ⚽🌴

Despite challenging weather conditions throughout the program, the commitment, resilience, and dedication shown by both participants and facilitators made this camp a meaningful and rewarding experience.

The camp focused on leadership, team building, and football coaching education aimed at strengthening grassroots football development within the community.

We are proud to share that a total of 7 coaches, including 1 female coach, successfully completed the program and received their certificates of completion. 👏🏽🏅

These newly trained coaches now take an important step forward in contributing towards the development of young football players and creating more inclusive sporting opportunities within their communities.

A sincere thank you to everyone who contributed towards the success of this initiative.
