🌍 Foreign players living in Malta are welcome to compete.

Ranking eligibility requires registration with Badminton Malta through an affiliated club and being Malta-born or resident in Malta.

🥉 Bronze in Mexico for Matthew Abela & Gabriela Skorkowska! 🇲🇽

Another strong international performance for Matthew Abela and Gabriela Skorkowska, who secured 3rd place in the Mixed Doubles at their tournament in Mexico! 🇲🇽🏸

The pair put together an impressive run, battling their way through the competition before reaching the semi-finals. There, they faced Japan’s Mahiro Oku & Ria Haga, with the Japanese pair taking the match:

🏸 Executive Team Meeting 2 — Building the Momentum!

On Tuesday, 25th August 2026, the Executive Team of Badminton Malta held its second official meeting, continuing the work towards strengthening and developing badminton across Malta.

The meeting focused on several key areas, including final preparations for the upcoming ranking tournaments, improvements to competition structure, and initiatives aimed at encouraging greater club participation. The team also discussed ongoing operational matters, club feedback and improvements to the playing environment.

Another productive meeting with a clear focus on organisation, participation and creating a stronger competitive environment for Maltese badminton.

🇲🇹🏸 TEAM MALTA BADMINTON | MEDITERRANEAN GAMES – TARANTO 2026

It has been a busy few days for Malta’s badminton team at the XX Mediterranean Games in Taranto, with Sam Cassar, Francesca Clark and Martina Clark representing Malta. 🇲🇹

🏸 MIXED DOUBLES | Francesca Clark & Sam Cassar

Francesca and Sam started their campaign against Italy’s David Salutt and Martina Corsini in the Round of 32. The Italian pair won in straight games, 21–10, 21–12, ending Malta’s Mixed Doubles campaign.

🏸 WOMEN’S SINGLES | Martina Clark

Martina faced Greece’s Georgia Sotiriou in the Round of 32. Sotiriou won 21–4, 21–9, bringing Martina’s Singles campaign to an end.

It was valuable experience for Martina at her first Mediterranean Games, with the Women’s Doubles still to come.

🏸 WOMEN’S SINGLES | Francesca Clark

Francesca faced Italy’s Gianna Stiglich Guzman, who won the match 21–11, 21–8. Despite the defeat, Francesca fought hard until the final point.

🏸 MEN’S SINGLES | Sam Cassar

Sam produced Malta’s first badminton win of the Games with a great comeback against Cyprus’ Nikolaos Kokosis.

After losing the first game 21–18, Sam fought back to win the second 21–19 before taking control of the decider 21–13.

Final score: 18–21, 21–19, 21–13. 🇲🇹💪

Sam now moves on to face Italy’s Giovanni Toti, while sisters Martina and Francesca will compete together in the Women’s Doubles.

The international summer campaign continues for Matthew Abela & Gabriela Skorkowska, who now head to Mexico for the Mexico International 2026.

After their latest competition in the Dominican Republic, Matthew and Gabriela are ready for another week of international badminton.

Each tournament brings another opportunity to compete, develop their game and gain valuable experience on the international circuit. 💪🏸

Matthew will begin his campaign in the Men’s Singles Round of 32, where he will face Sweden’s Richard Kuhl. 🇲🇹🆚🇸🇪

Today, Wednesday, 19th August, Francesca Clark, Martina Clark and Sam Cassar are at the airport, preparing for their journey to Taranto, Italy, where they will proudly represent Malta at the Mediterranean Games – Taranto 2026! 🇲🇹✈️🇮🇹

The excitement is building as Team Malta gets ready to take on this fantastic Mediterranean sporting challenge! 🏸🔥

The Maltese badminton team will be accompanied by National Head Coach Matthew Haynes as they prepare to compete against some of the Mediterranean’s best athletes. 💪🔥🏸

Francesca, Martina and Sam are ready to represent Malta with pride, determination and team spirit, giving their very best throughout the competition. 🌍🏸
