Malta prepares for its biggest-ever speedcubing championship in Valletta Malta’s small but growing speedcubing community is set to host its largest official tournament on 26 September at the University of Malta’s historic Aula Magna in Valletta.

Patrick Ponce just changed 3×3 One-Handed.
A 5.62-second solve established a new World Record—and it was only the beginning of an extraordinary fortnight for competitive cubing.
Between 1 and 14 August:
🌍 1 World Record�🌎 4 Continental Records�🏳️ 75 National Records�⚡ 42 unique record-setters�🏆 80 record performances across 24 competitions
From two new Oceanian One-Handed records and a sub-one 2×2 average to Vietnam’s 5×5 breakthrough, cubers around the world kept moving the limits.

Four competitions in Malta. One name present at every single one.

Gerard Tabone’s story in Maltese cubing is not defined by one result, but by longevity. From competing at Malta’s very first official competition to returning each time the community gathered, Gerard has witnessed every chapter of the sport’s growth on the islands.

Along the way, he also left his mark on the record books—setting Malta’s first official 4×4 average National Record.

Today, while pursuing a PhD in Computer Science, Gerard is preparing to return once again for the Maltese Championship 2026—extending an attendance record that nobody else shares.

Four competitions held. Four attended. The story continues this September.
