We were speaking about this with some parents a few days ago, and we truly believe Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is one of the most effective martial arts for women when it comes to real self-defense. 🥋

Not because it teaches aggression but because it teaches control.

Jiu-Jitsu gives women the ability to stay calm, think clearly, escape danger, and use technique against strength and when we look at girls like Selma and Lexi, who have been training for years, we see exactly what this art can create:

Real confidence for life. 💙

That is the real power of Jiu-Jitsu.

We’ve known Lexi since she was 8 years old. 🥋❤️

To see everything she has accomplished over the years on the mats, inside Avant-Garde, helping with the kids classes, supporting the academy, and even cleaning when help was needed makes us incredibly proud.

And now, seeing her grow, shine, and bloom into a young woman through her new passion, photography, is something truly beautiful.

Just like in Jiu-Jitsu, she brings dedication, creativity, patience, and heart to everything she does.

Congratulations to Luke for winning his No-Gi category with a great performance and three submissions. Focused on his game plan, he showed exactly what makes his Jiu-Jitsu so dangerous:

In 2019, Avant-Garde began on a tiny 50 m² mat inside a squash court in Paceville. The mats were slippery, the conditions were rough, and the future was uncertain but the passion was real.

From our first academy to surviving COVID, opening a 600 m² facility, joining Alliance through our friend and mentor Cobrinha, welcoming world champions to Malta, building a strength and recovery area with sauna and ice bath, creating a dedicated Kids Academy, and becoming the first Maltese team to win an international Best Team trophy at AJP Italy… every chapter brought us closer to what Avant-Garde is today.

Around 400 students. Competitors, beginners, children, families, visitors, coaches and friends from all over the world.

Avant-Garde was never meant to be just a place to train.

It became a team.
A culture.
A community.
A place to belong.
