What if playtime could do so much more than simply keep your child busy?

How does play support your child’s development? How can simple toys encourage creativity, problem-solving and independence? And how can you join in without turning playtime into another lesson?

At Baby Talks, our mini-talk THE POWER OF PLAY, with Christina Chetcuti, will explore how everyday play can become a powerful way to support your child’s development while strengthening connection and having fun together.

We’ll look at why play is essential for toddlers and children, how it supports fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, language and communication, and why open-ended toys can encourage children to explore, imagine and create.

Christina will also give a hands-on demonstration of beautiful wooden open-ended toys from Nature Toys, showing how one simple toy can be used in so many different ways.

Because you don’t need lots of expensive or complicated toys to support your child’s development. Sometimes, the simplest toys create the richest play.

This mini-talk is sponsored by Nature Toys.

What happens when we PAUSE and let babies LEAD THE WAY?

Some of the most meaningful moments with your baby happen when we simply slow down and pay attention.

We’re delighted to welcome the Parent-Infant Mental Health Alliance to the MyMama Hub with Wait, Watch, Wonder - an 8-week programme that helps parents discover how observing, following and responding to their baby’s lead can strengthen connection and support healthy development.

Led by Occupational Therapists with specialist training in perinatal mental health, the programme offers a supportive space to understand your baby in a different way, gain practical insights and discover the value of those small, everyday moments together.

Tuesdays at 16:00 at the MyMama Hub, Naxxar - starting 13 October 2026.

The programme is aimed at parents and babies 6-12 months of age and is FREE OF CHARGE, with a €20 registration fee per family. Places are limited.

To register, email [email protected].

This programme is supported through the Small Initiatives Support Scheme, with the support of the Malta Council for the Voluntary Sector (MCVS) and the Ministry for Inclusion and the Voluntary Sector.

No parent is an island, especially when you’re raising a child on one.

How can I balance work and time with my family? What am I entitled to when I return to work? What are the ins and outs of the free childcare scheme? What are the financial implications and where can I get guidance? Who can I turn to for breastfeeding, health or emotional support?

At Baby Talks, our panel RAISING A CHILD IN MALTA brings together top experts from different corners of family life to help you make sense of it all.

We’ll talk about childcare options, employment rights and leave entitlements, flexible work and the tax refund for women returning to work, the financial realities of raising children, national health services, private support, community initiatives and the practical resources available to parents in Malta.

Because so much support is there. You just need to know where to find it.

This panel is sponsored by St Paul’s Childcare & Early-Learning Centre.

Welcome to the season of unfinished sentences 🫣

It’s official. Baby Talks 2026 early-bird tickets are LIVE.

If you’ve been following along, you’ll know we’re building this year’s Baby Talks around something we really believe parents need - a place to find the people, information, services and support that make this whole parenting thing feel a little less overwhelming.

And we’re very happy to have Claire Agius Ordway joining us as once again as our host. Claire brings her warmth, energy and years of experience connecting with local families, and we can’t wait to have her guiding the conversations and keeping the day moving!

One day. Leading local experts. Real conversations. Practical advice. Trusted brands and support services. And a whole room full of parents who are somewhere along the same journey. And this year, we’re taking over The Phoenicia Malta.

So, if you're expecting or have recently had your little one, make sure to add Baby Talks to your October calendar, aaaand now is the time to grab your early-bird passes! These discounted rates are available for a limited time only.

Meet the midwife who’s going to help you cut through the hospital bag confusion.

Senior midwife Annabelle Cachia will be leading our next Baby Talks Meetup, helping you work out what you ACTUALLY NEED, what’s worth having, and what’s just going to take up space in your bag (and probably never get used).

Expect practical advice on packing for you, your baby and your birth partner, plus plenty of tips and answers to your questions.

Spend a relaxed Sunday morning over coffee, yummy nibbles and good conversation, meet other parents-to-be who are at the same stage of the journey, and start building connections within a local community of families.

How many hospital bag checklists have you saved so far?

One says you need it. Another says you don’t. A Pinterest list has 47 items. A reel insists you absolutely need a particular gadget. And then each baby shop has its own version too.

So… what do you ACTUALLY pack?!

We’re cutting through the noise at our next Baby Talks Meetup, where Senior Midwife Annabelle Cachia will give you a practical, midwife-led guide to packing your hospital bag.

Annabelle will walk you through what you REALLY need, what’s nice to have, and what is simply a waste of money and precious bag space.

You’ll also get practical tips on packing, what to take for baby, what you’ll need for yourself, what your birth partner should know, plus plenty of opportunity to ask the midwife your own questions.

And because we’re at Toytastic, you’ll have the chance to browse the store after the session while it’s closed to the public, with an exclusive 15% off!

Come with your questions. Leave knowing EXACTLY what belongs in that bag.
