NICHOLAS CARABOTT WINS THE TRAP PRESIDENTโS CUP 2026 EDITION

Nicholas Carabott won the Presidentโs Cup 2026 Edition which was held at the Malta National Shooting Ranges.
Ryan Bugeja finished in second, while Nico Sciberras finished in third place overall.
This Trap competition was organised on 75 targets, followed by an ISSF final round of 30 targets from a single shot.
The eight finalists according to their qualification scores were:

Today, Andre Cassar and Liam Sciberras are at the airport, setting off for Taranto, Italy, where they will proudly represent Malta at the Mediterranean Games โ Taranto 2026!
The Maltese S***t Shooting team is accompanied by National Head Coach Bruno Gubellini.
At the Opening Ceremony, Andre will also have the distinct honor of being a flag bearer for Malta, carrying the national flag with pride! ๐ฒ๐น

GIANLUCA CHETCUTI WINS THE SANTA MARIJA GRAND PRIX AND SETS A NATIONAL RECORD

Gianluca Chetcuti won the Santa Marija Grand Prix and set a national record by a hitting a total of 30/30 clays under the new International Shooting Sport Federation Finals format.
William Chetcuti finished in second, while Emmanuel Bugeja finished in third place overall.
This Trap event was held at the Southern Shooting Club over 2 days where 27 Athletes battled both a challenging target field and extreme summer temperatures, while shooting at a total of 125 qualifying targets each. The field demonstrated a high level of competition that delivered standout scores.
The eight Finalists in Bib number order according to their qualification scores were: GALEA Brian 121/125, CHETCUTI William 120/125, GALEA James Jr 119/125, CHETCUTI Gianluca 117/125, BUGEJA Emmanuel 114/125, CASSAR Abiel 113/125, SCIBERRAS Nico 111/125 +3 shoot-off and GRECH Shazen 111/125 +2 shoot-off.

The best Shooter in Day 1 and in Day 2 was GALEA Brian with 73/75 on the first day and 48/50 on the second day.
ATTARD Nazzareno topped the Veterans Category, while CASSAR Abiel was declared as the best Junior Athlete of this event.
The next Trap competition will be the Presidentโs Cup which will be held on the 23 August 2026 at Malta National Shooting Ranges.

Nico Sciberras won the Silver Medal in the Trap Men Solo Event at the European Championship U23 Shotgun Event organised by the European Shooting Confederation which is currently taking place in Wroclaw, Poland.
This was the second time that Nico managed to win a Medal in a Continental Championship.
Sciberras had to go through 3 elimination phases and a semi-final before contesting AGCA Egemen from Turkiye for the final stages, where Nico had to settle for second place despite a strong performance.
Apart for SCIBERRAS, Team Malta was represented by CASSAR Abiel who made it through the second phase, and GRECH Shazen who gained valuable experience throughout the first elimination phase.
The Malta Trap Team also took part in the Trap competition held between the 8 and 9 August, where SCIBERRAS Nico had another great performance hitting 117/125 clays earning a comfortable place in the final with Bib number 3. In the final stages Nico had to settle for 7th place out of 40 athletes, when he was eliminated in the first phase with a score of 6/10 targets and where once again, AGCA Egemen from Turkiye won the gold medal hitting 29/30 clays, followed by TOTH Timotej from Slovakia who took silver after hitting 25/30 targets, and GIORGOS Grigoriou from Cyprus who took bronze with a score of 18/25 targets.
The results of the other Maltese Athletes were:
GRECH Shazen who hit 104/125, CASSAR Abiel scored 100/125, While BONNICI Leetov who competed for Ranking Points (RPO) had a positive 1st overseas experience scoring 106/125, while CASSAR Luke also competing for Ranking Points (RPO) managed 98/125.
Leading the Maltese contingent in the S***t Men category was CASSAR Andre, who produced a commendable score of 117 out of 125, missing the shoot-off for the final by just 1 clay and finishing 12th overall among a field of 46 top-tier international competitors.
Maltaโs athletes were guided by an experienced support team made up of Bruno Gubellini as team coach in S***t, while John Mary Bugeja undertook official roles in the Trap discipline. MSSF President Mr Sinclair Cassar was the Head of Delegation who also took part in various high-level meetings and ceremonial roles throughout the event.
Looking ahead, Team Malta will continue its international campaign with the upcoming Mediterranean Games in Taranto, Italy, scheduled for the 21 August till 03 September 2026.
