Both Matthew Abela and Gabriela Skorkowska reached the finals in two categories at the II Internacional Badminton Sucre Capital de Bolivia 2026, finishing with two gold medals and one silver! 🤩

🏆🥈𝗚𝗮𝗯𝗶: 𝗚𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗠𝗶𝘅𝗲𝗱 𝗗𝗼𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗲𝘀 & 𝗦𝗶𝗹𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝗻 𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻’𝘀 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗲𝘀

Matthew started with a straight-set win over Leonardo David Colque Solis from Bolivia, 21–6, 21–4. He followed with another win over Jose Mamani Sucari from Peru, 21–7, 21–10, before defeating Rivano Bisphan from Suriname in the semifinals, 21–10, 21–9. In the final, Matthew faced Leo Lee from Paraguay and won a thrilling three-set match, 21–9, 15–21, 21–16, becoming the Men’s Singles champion! 🏆

Gabi received a walkover in the opening round and advanced to the semifinals, where she defeated Melanie Adriana Salvatierra Condori from Bolivia, 21–9, 21–9. In the final, Gabi faced the first-seeded Juliana Giraldo from Colombia. After two closely contested sets, she lost 21–18, 21–17, earning a silver medal in Women’s Singles. 🥈

In the mixed doubles, Matthew and Gabi advanced to the semifinals, defeating Jeremy Mendoza Mamani and Melanie Adriana Salvatierra Condori from Bolivia, 21–10, 21–10. In the final, they faced Gabriel Danilo Rosales Medina and Juanita Siviora, both from Bolivia. Matthew and Gabi won 21–16, 21–18 to become Mixed Doubles champions! 🏆🏆

Wow, what an achievement! Well done to both Matthew and Gabi who made us incredibly proud 💪🇲🇹

🥉 𝗕𝗥𝗢𝗡𝗭𝗘 𝗠𝗘𝗗𝗔𝗟 𝗙𝗥𝗢𝗠 𝗝𝗔𝗠𝗔𝗜𝗖𝗔! 🇯🇲

Our very own Matthew Abela and Gabriela Skorkowska have been crowned third-place finishers in Mixed Doubles at the Jamaica International 2026! 🥉🏸

Gabi started the tournament with a solid win in the Singles event, defeating Xian Trotman from Barbados 21–6, 21–7 to reach the Round of 16.

Matthew also started strongly, defeating Mickhaile Williams from Jamaica 21–11, 21–19. In the Round of 16, Matthew secured another victory against Daniel Ford from Jamaica, winning 21–12, 21–11.

Gabi continued her strong run in the Round of 16 with a convincing 21–18, 21–8 victory over Elisa Del Passo Fraga from Brazil.

Both Matthew and Gabi went on to compete in the Quarter-Finals, where they unfortunately fell short. Matthew lost 15–21, 11–21 to Srinivas Subash, while Gabi lost 15–21, 11–21 to Kavya Krishna, both opponents from the USA.

In Mixed Doubles, Matthew and Gabi put on an excellent performance and made it all the way to the Semi-Finals. In a thrilling and closely fought match against a Jamaican pair, they narrowly lost the deciding third set, 19–21, 21–14, 21–23, after an intense 51-minute battle.

Their impressive run earned them a well-deserved Bronze Medal, which they are bringing home from Jamaica! 🥉🇯🇲

This week, Juan Casaru and Jeremy Mark Gatt represented Malta at the VICTOR U19 Irish Open 2026, competing in both the Men’s Singles and Men’s Doubles 🇮🇪🇲🇹

Jeremy got off to a strong start in the Men’s Singles with a solid victory over Diego Arenas of Spain, earning his place in the Round of 32. He continued his impressive run with another convincing two-set win against Robert Cowiman of Ireland, 21–14, 21–10.

Jeremy’s journey came to an end in a hard-fought three-set battle against Maxim Iacob of Romania. After taking the first set 21–17, Jeremy narrowly lost the next two sets, 17–21, 11–21. A great fight right until the final point! 👏

Juan faced a tough opening match in the Men’s Singles, finishing with scores of 14–21 and 6–21. Despite the result, it was a valuable experience competing at an international U19 event.

In the Men’s Doubles, Juan and Jeremy teamed up and faced Ireland’s Conor Blakeman and Corey Chambers, finishing the match 11–21, 6–21 🤝

And with that, the duo’s Irish Open experience comes to an end! 🇮🇪🏸

Well done, boys! 💪👏 We are proud of you both for stepping onto the international stage, competing hard and gaining valuable experience.

Our players have started August with a packed schedule of international training camps, continuing to develop their skills and gain valuable experience on the international stage.

Dayle Bugelli, Luca Mascena, and Julian Zammit have joined Julia Galea, Monique Vella, and Jade Fenech for another week of intensive training in Bolzano, Italy 🇮🇹 The players are concluding this camp this week and will be returning home in the coming days after another valuable training experience 🫶

Meanwhile, Emily Abela, accompanied by Coach Rodney, is currently taking part in the International Summer Camp in Oviedo, Spain 🇪🇸 Adding to this achievement, Coach Rodney has also been invited to coach at the same camp, recognising his expertise, dedication, and contribution to the sport at an international level.

These opportunities provide our players and coaches with invaluable experiences, allowing them to learn from international experts, challenge themselves in new environments, and continue raising their standards 💪
