On Monday, 8 𝑆𝑒𝑝𝑡𝑒𝑚𝑏𝑒𝑟, 𝗠𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗮 celebrated its

𝘝𝘪𝘤𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘺 𝘋𝘢𝘺 (𝑰𝒍-𝑽𝒊𝒕𝒐𝒓𝒋𝒂 in the vernacular),

commemorating a slew of key battlefield victories
that shaped the long, rich history of this small archipelago
in the middle of the 𝑴𝒆𝒅𝒊𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒓𝒂𝒏𝒆𝒂𝒏.

To evoke the heroic deeds of their forebears,
several people in Malta participated in various 𝙨𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙨 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙨,
notably the 𝙉𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝙍𝙚𝙜𝙖𝙩𝙩𝙖 🚣🏽‍♂️ in the 𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐇𝐚𝐫𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐫,

and, just a few rows away,

𝙄𝙡-𝙑𝙞𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙟𝙖 𝙎𝙘𝙧𝙖𝙗𝙗𝙡𝙚 1-𝘿𝙖𝙮 𝙏𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙣𝙖𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩

-Civil, Service Sports Club in 𝐕𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐚,
host palazzo and host city to the
17th Malta International Scrabble Open (MISO17)
on 30 Oct - 5 Nov 2025.

What better way to celebrate this national holiday than for:

✌️𝗦𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗲𝗮 to win the 𝙍𝙚𝙜𝙖𝙩𝙩𝙖 after a 13-year wait,
✌️3rd seed 𝗝𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗽𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝘆𝗼 to claim🥇, and
✌️𝗥𝗼𝘀𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗲 𝗙𝗮𝗿𝗿𝘂𝗴𝗶𝗮 to 🚣🏻‍♀️ her way up from the penultimate rank to🥉
in the 1-𝘿𝙖𝙮 𝙏𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙣𝙖𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩.

Heartfelt thanks to Norman and Maria Zammit of Ic-Civil Restaurant at the Civil Service Sports Club for their heartful hosting of our Santa Marija 1-Day Tournament on Friday 15 August.

Equally warm in its radiance was the natural light streaming down from the clear 𝑽𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒕𝒕𝒂 sky through the skylight overhead, with not a single lightbulb turned on and not a single drop of sweat shed throughout this very hot and sunny summer day.

A perfect place to play Scrabble. A great venue for ＭＩＳＯ１７ on 30 Oct - 5 Nov 2025. (This will take place upstairs in the main hall of 𝑃𝑎𝑙𝑎𝑧𝑧𝑜 𝑉𝑒𝑟𝑑𝑒𝑙𝑖𝑛.)
