ADVANCE | Peter Elders

As part of the launch of Hockey Association Malta’s 10-year ADVANCE strategy, Robert spoke with Peter Elders, Executive Board Member of EuroHockey, about the opportunities ahead for hockey in Malta.

Peter highlighted the tremendous potential of the Kordin Hockey Complex, explaining that with targeted investment and continued development, Malta has every opportunity to welcome international teams, host EuroHockey tournaments, and become a destination for training and preparation camps.

Reflecting on Hockey Association Malta President David Agius, Peter spoke warmly about their long-standing relationship and praised David’s dedication and commitment to the sport over many years. He emphasised that passionate people like David are instrumental in driving hockey forward.

With the ADVANCE strategy now in place, Hockey Malta continues to build towards an exciting future for the sport.

ADVANCE | Phil Taylor

As part of the launch of Hockey Association Malta’s 10-year ADVANCE strategy, Robert caught up with Phil Taylor, EuroHockey Consultant and CEO of Blueprint Sport, to discuss the exciting opportunities ahead for hockey in Malta.

In the interview, Phil speaks about the tremendous potential of the Kordin Hockey Complex and the importance of strong clubs driven by passionate and dedicated people. He also congratulates Qormi Hockey Club on being named EuroHockey Small Club of the Year 2025, describing it as a fantastic achievement for both the club and Maltese hockey.

Phil also explains Blueprint Sport’s role as EuroHockey’s strategic management support provider, delivering the Organisational Health Programme and supporting national associations with long-term strategic planning. Malta is currently one of 12 national associations taking part in the programme, helping shape a clear vision for the future of hockey.

Together, through collaboration and long-term planning, ADVANCE is laying the foundations for the next generation of hockey in Malta.

As part of the launch of Hockey Association Malta’s 10-year ADVANCE strategy, Tom Pedersen-Smith, Head of Strategy & Development at EuroHockey, shares his thoughts on the exciting future of hockey in Malta.

In this interview with Robert, Tom highlights the potential of Malta’s hockey facilities, as identified within the ADVANCE strategy, and the vital role that SportMalta continues to play in supporting the sport. He also looks ahead to the opportunities this creates for Malta to host future EuroHockey international competitions.

Tom also reflects on the strong partnership with Hockey Association Malta President David Agius and praises the passion and commitment shown by Malta’s clubs, volunteers, coaches and players, whose contributions helped shape the ADVANCE strategy.

Earlier this week, Hockey Association Malta officially launched its new 10-year strategic plan, ADVANCE, setting out a clear vision for the future of hockey in Malta.

In this video, hear from David Agius (President, Hockey Association Malta), Tom Pedersen-Smith (Head of Strategy & Development, EuroHockey), and Phil Taylor (CEO, Blueprint Sport) as they discuss the importance of the strategy and the opportunities it creates for the sport.

𝐀𝐃𝐕𝐀𝐍𝐂𝐄 | 𝐋𝐚𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐡 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭

Hockey Association Malta officially launched its new 10-year strategic plan, ADVANCE, marking an important milestone for the future development of hockey in Malta.

Developed through EuroHockey’s Organisational Health Programme, and in collaboration with Sport Malta, the Maltese Olympic Committee, AIMS, and supported by the FIH, ADVANCE provides a clear roadmap for the sustainable growth of the sport over the next decade.

The launch brought together representatives from local and international sporting organisations, highlighting the collective commitment towards strengthening hockey in Malta.

Qormi Hockey Club concluded the EuroHockey Club Challenge I campaign in Predanovci, Slovenia with a third-place finish overall in the competition.

The Maltese side faced eventual champions HAHK Mladost 🇭🇷 in their final fixture, bringing to a close a historic tournament which marked the highest EuroHockey club division ever reached by a Maltese team.

Congratulations to the players, coaching staff and everyone involved on another important milestone for Maltese hockey, as local clubs continue to compete and develop strongly on the European stage.

A special moment for Maltese hockey, with several Żurrieq Wolves Hotsticks HC players making their first ever EuroHockey appearances during this year’s EuroHockey Club Challenge II in Poland.

Congratulations to the players, coaching staff and everyone involved for the time, preparation and commitment invested throughout the season leading into the tournament.

It is encouraging to continue seeing more Maltese players gaining experience at European level, reflecting the continued growth and improving standard of hockey in Malta.

GREE Żurrieq Wolves Hotsticks Hockey Club concluded their EuroHockey Club Challenge II campaign in third place, confirming Malta’s place in the competition for next season.

Meanwhile, Qormi Hockey Club fought back for another dramatic draw in the EuroHockey Division I tournament to advance to the final against Croatian side HAHK Mladost.

Zurrieq Wolves Hotsticks HC have concluded their EuroHockey Club Challenge II campaign with an impressive third-place finish in Toruń, Poland.

The Maltese side produced a strong tournament throughout the weekend, securing Malta’s place in EuroHockey Club Challenge II for next season following a series of competitive performances against European opposition.

In their final fixture against hosts HK Pomorzanin Toruń 🇵🇱, goals came from Gary Bonnici and Jayden Cutajar, with Bonnici finishing the tournament with five goals overall.

Following the conclusion of this year’s EuroHockey competitions, Malta will now have clubs competing in both EuroHockey Club Challenge I and EuroHockey Club Challenge II again next season - another positive step for the continued growth and development of Maltese hockey on the international stage.

A memorable day for Maltese hockey, with Żurrieq Wolves Hotsticks Hockey Club and Qormi Hockey Club both producing strong performances in their respective EuroHockey competitions in Poland and Slovenia.

Qormi Hockey Club secured a 3–2 comeback victory over HC SHVSM Olimpia Vinnitsa 🇺🇦 to advance to the EuroHockey Club Challenge I final, while Żurrieq Wolves Hotsticks Hockey Club confirmed a third-place finish in the EuroHockey Club Challenge II following a tightly contested tournament.

Another positive moment for the continued growth and international development of Maltese hockey.
