The Boys in Blue ended their 2 game losing streak last night with a hard-fought victory over Sliema Warriors. A back and forth affair saw goals from Barthet and Mifsud matched by the opposition to keep the score at 2-2 till late in the game, when new signing Adam Bradshaw rounded the keeper to take the lead. Zak Farrugia then netted his first of the season after returning from a long spell abroad to end the game 4-2.

As special shoutout to goalkeeper Mike Micallef who put in another man of the match performance. This victory has placed the Blues provisionally into 2nd place.

📆 Next game promises to be another thriller as we face Kukkani, level on points and both aiming to cut the lead on 1st place.

The Thrushes have gathered all nine points from their opening three encounters of this Summer’s SSL tournament.

Quickly leaving his impact in the team, one of our latest signings Andrew Messina got us off to a flying start with a long-range goal and a clinical assist to Luke Mifsud in the first half.

High impact substitutes in the second half got us over the line, with two great long-range solo efforts from Michele Sansone and Tommy Camilleri finding the back of the net to secure all three points for the Blues.

🐦 BACK TO BACK WINS TO START THE SEASON 💙

The Blue Birds continued their defence of the SSL championship with another win last night against Citadella. The first half was a back and forth affair which saw Mifsud, Barthet and Spiteri grab a goal each, but also saw 2 goals conceded for the Blues for a half-time score of 3-2.

The Thrushes turned it on in the second half and didn’t look back, with Camilleri scoring a signature free kick, Spiteri scoring a second long distance volley in as many games, and Mifsud finishing off a stunning team goal to finish the game 6-3.

Another special shoutout to Kieran Ferry at the back, as well as 2 impressive debuts from Mike Micallef and Andrew Messina.

📆 The Boys in Blue go again next week against New Tigers in an effort to continue the hot start to the season.

🐦 BLUE BIRDS KICK OFF TITLE DEFENCE IN STYLE 💙

The Blue Birds kicked off their second SSL campaign with a win last night against Atletico BJ. The game kicked off to a rollercoaster start, the lead switching hands twice, with two goals from Mifsud and one from Sansone to take a 3-2 lead into half time.

The two combined again early in the second half for Mifsud to claim his hat trick, while midfielder Camilleri finished off a well worked team goal to make the score 5-2.

Andy Spiteri then entered the pitch and wasted no time, grabbing two goals of his own, including an early contender for goal of the season, to put the game beyond any doubt. A special shoutout to goalkeeper Samuel Mifsud and defender Kieran Ferry who put in an inspired performance.

📆 The Boys in Blue go again next week against Citadella, aiming to continue last summer’s unbeaten run into this season.

🐦 BLUE BIRDS INTO QUARTER FINALS 💙

The Blue Birds overcame Division 1 side Msida Collies this week to progress to the quarter finals of the SFAL Cup.

The game was off to a hot start, with Barthet scoring almost directly from kick off, but the Blues quickly fell 3-1 behind early on. Jurgen Grech dug deep with a man of the match performance, scoring 2 brilliant goals in the first half to tie the game, and grabbing his hat trick early in the second half to take the lead. Barthet added one more goal from a quick counter attack to make it 5 for the night, but the experienced opposition held on to grab a late equaliser and take the game to penalties.

Barthet, Spiteri, Bugeja and Grech all converted from the spot, but goalkeeper Samuel Mifsud was the hero of the day, saving 2 penalties to take the boys in blue to the next round.

📆 The quarter final will take place on Wednesday 20th May, against the overall best side in SFAL, reigning Division 1 champions La Famiglia AFC.
