Some victories mean more when you know what it took to get there.

Today, Laura van Laar won the Mongol Derby 2026 — 1,000 kilometres across the Mongolian steppe and one of the toughest horse races in the world.

Nine days in the saddle. No marked trail. Unpredictable terrain and weather. And not one familiar horse carrying her to the finish — roughly every 35 kilometres, riders change horses and have to quickly understand and adapt to a completely new animal.

There are strict veterinary checks throughout the race, and penalties when a horse doesn't meet the required parameters. Laura herself faced a penalty during the Derby that temporarily cost her the lead.

And still, she came back. And she finished first.

But for us, this story didn't begin in Mongolia.

For the past four years, Laura has been part of the Sherpa family and one of the guides on our Miyak Tribe Trail, riding through the mountains of Bistra and the wild landscapes around Galichnik.

And in many ways, these mountains became part of her preparation for Mongolia.

Long days in the saddle. Steep mountain terrain and big changes in elevation. Long daily routes. Changing conditions. Working with different horses in the mountains, day after day.

The experience she built here became incredibly valuable when she eventually found herself facing the vast Mongolian steppe.

And we were lucky enough to witness those years up close.
The early mornings.
The long days in the saddle.
The training.
The discipline.
Working, riding, preparing — and then building her own business late into the night.

We watched her ride through mountains, changing terrain and long days. We watched her work with different horses, over and over again. We watched her keep showing up.

Long before Mongolia, she was preparing for moments like this.

The victory is Laura's. Every kilometre of it. Every sacrifice behind it. Every bit of the work that earned it.

But today, our hearts are right there at that finish line with her.

What a woman. What a force.

Laura, we couldn't be prouder.
