Who is responsible if a child is injured during training?
Under Latvian sports practice, the coach and the sports club (or institution) are responsible for a child’s safety and health during the session.
If the injury happens because of the coach’s negligence, an inappropriate training load, or a failure to follow safety rules, liability may fall on the coach, the club, or another responsible person.
Parents should check: • who supervises the session • whether the coach is certified • how loads are adapted to age • what insurance and first-aid procedures exist • what the club contract actually says about accidents
Prevention is cheaper than litigation. Clubs that document risk assessments, warm-ups, equipment checks and incident reports protect both athletes and themselves.
This post is general information, not legal advice. If an incident has already happened, get the facts in writing and seek counsel promptly.

Latvian ice hockey and basketball parents are notorious for being aggressive in their kids matches

Do parents have the right to watch training?

Legislation does not usually provide for a general right for parents to be present at training. Although parents have the right and obligation to represent their child’s interests and monitor his or her safety, sports clubs and schools have the right to determine their own internal rules and procedures for organizing the learning process.
