Today, the men’s épée competition at the World Fencing Championships in Hong Kong continued with the round of 64. 🤺

Flavio Giannotte (ESUD) narrowly missed a place in the top 32, losing 14–15 to Saudi Arabia’s Khalifah Alomairi.

Flavio finished the World Championships in 38th place, Herve Colling 171 out of 231 fencers. 🇱🇺

The top 64 in the men’s épée event have been decided today at the World Championships in Hong Kong.

Luxembourg is represented by Flavio Giannotte (ESUD) and Hervé Colling (CEL), with Smiljka Rodic serving as Head of Delegation.

Flavio delivered an outstanding performance, winning all six of his pool bouts to secure his place in the last 64. He will be back on the piste on Sunday, with everything still to play for.

Hervé recorded two victories and four defeats in the pool stage to advance to the direct elimination round. There, he was defeated 15–7 by Czech fencer Michal Cupr. Competing at his first Senior World Championships, Hervé gained valuable experience on the biggest stage.

On Sunday, Flavio will face Saudi Arabia’s Khalifah Alomairi for a place in the top 32.

Fencing World Championships are just around the corner! 🌍
From 22–30 July, the world’s best fencers will compete in Hong Kong, China.
Representing Luxembourg in the men’s épée event are:

🇱🇺 Hervé Colling (CEL)
Both athletes will begin their competition on 23 July with the men’s épée preliminary pools.

Throwback to the Youth Fencing Championships of Luxembourg, 20–21 June 2026. 🤺

All the fencers showed great spirit and dedication. Despite the heat, there were still plenty of happy faces and smiles all around.

Guilherme BOTELHO (CGDEL) finished 9th out of 57 fencers in the U14 Sabre event at the EFC U14 Festival in Cividale del Friuli. With this result, he has moved up to No. 1 in the European U14 Sabre ranking for the 2025/2026 season! 💥

The Fédération Luxembourgeoise d’Escrime (FLE) has decided to postpone the 2026 National Championships for the U17, U20 and Senior categories, scheduled for 27 and 28 June 2026 at the Centre National d’Escrime (CNE) in Luxembourg City, in response to the exceptional heatwave currently affecting the country.

Although every effort was made to evaluate whether the competition could be held safely, the FLE considers that the protection of everyone involved must remain the highest priority.

The Federation thanks all athletes, families, clubs, officials and partners for their understanding and reaffirms its commitment to the continued development of fencing in Luxembourg.

On 20 and 21 June 2026, the Fédération Luxembourgeoise d’Escrime held Luxembourg’s first-ever National Championships for the U11, U13 and U15 age categories.🇱🇺

Across two days of competition, young fencers competed in épée and foil, both individually and in teams, with national champions crowned in each category.

In épée, the U15 titles went to Robin SZEKERES (CEL) and Joséphine MARTINEZ (CEL), while Emily HECK (CEL) and Rodion ROMANIUK (CEL) topped the U13 category. The U11 champions are Alessia PHILLIPS (ESUD) and Ivan SEMIANYSTYI (ESUD). In the U15 team events, Cercle Escrime Luxembourg secured both the girls’ and boys’ titles.
In foil, Paule GIESLER (CGDEL) and Haiko MASQUELIER VÁZQUEZ (CGDEL) led the U15 field, with Daniel FRANTZ (CGDEL) and Eva NICOLAS (CGDEL) taking the U13 titles. In U11, the winners are Nicolas CABELLOS (CGDEL) and Erika GREBET SPILMAN (CGDEL). The U15 women's foil team event was won by CGDEL Luxembourg 2.

A warm thank you to all the fencers, coaches, clubs and supporters who made the event such a success. The energy, commitment and sportsmanship shown throughout the championships made this first edition a memorable one.
