NACKSL Milestones
2011:
• The NACKSL receiving a donation of 6 Racing Kayaks (K1) and 6 Racing Canoes (C1) from the ICF Iranian Canoe Federation.
• Through the Iranian Canoe Federation sponsored program at the Semmelweiss University in Budapest, The first Sri Lankan ICF Certified coach was created to Sri Lanka.
2006:
• The NACKSL receiving a donation of 3 Touring Kayaks
(K1), 3 Racing Kayaks (K1) and 3 Racing Canoes (C1) from the ICF in order to promote the sport in Sri Lanka
2005:
• Recognition and affiliation of the NACKSL to the National Olympic Committee (NOC)
• Recognition and affiliation of the NACKSL to International Canoe Federation (ICF)
• Recognition and affiliation of the NACKSL to Asian Canoe Federation (ACC)
2004:
• The National Association for Canoeing and Kayaking Sri Lanka (NACKSL) was formed and registered with the ministry of Sport, under the sports law no: 25th of 1973
• Initiative to form the National Association was encouraged by the Indian Kayaking Federation and UNESCO, under its dialog through sports programme. Programmes and activates:
2013:
This year shows much promise with keenness being shown by the Sri Lanka Navy and Sri Lanka Air Force to purchase more boats for practices and competitions and to conduct regular training at different locations. The Sri Lanka Navy is to organize a water sport event during the holiday season in Nuwara Eliya in April in 2013.
2012:
A Kayak novices competition was held in Nuwara Eliya on 14th April 2012, organized by the Sri Lanka Navy, followed by the first ever Diyawanna Racing Kayak sprint and novices races being held on 24th April 2012., in conjunction with the Anannda College Rowing Regatta, using 8 lanes. This was followed by another Racing Kayak competitions in 2012 were won by the Sri Lanka Navy, given that they have been involved in water sports from a long time.
2011:
A novices Kayak competition was held in June 2011 at the Nawala Canal.
2010 – Training Programmes were conducted in 2010 in Kithulgala, Bolgoda and Belihuloya out of funds provided by Olympic Solidarity Assistance (OSA), through the National Olympic Committee. Mihin Amarasingha were trained by a foreign coach; Mr. Zakarai Mahmoudi from the Tunisian Canoe Federation, whose visit and two week programme was sponsored by the ICF.
2009:
Further training programmes were conducted by “Borderlands” in 2009 at Kaduwela and at the Kinross Club in Wellawatte, out of the funds provided by the Asian Canoe Federation in 2008.
2008:
Training programmes in Kithulgala and Thulhiriya were conducted by “Borderlands” out of funds provided by the Asian Canoe Federation in 2007/8. Funding was also received from the National Olympic Committee in 2007.
