Colombo: Sri Lanka's emerging all-rounder Sonal Dinusha is continuing to produce an impressive series against India, following his outstanding performances in Galle with another crucial innings at the Sinhalese Sports Club.

After scoring a magnificent century and 84 in the first Test, Dinusha once again found himself in the middle of a Sri Lankan fightback in Colombo.

With wickets falling around him, the young left-hander showed remarkable composure to remain unbeaten on 52, helping Sri Lanka reach 216/7 at Tea on Day 3.

Dinusha's form in this series has been one of the major positives for Sri Lanka.

🏏 Jaiswal–Fernando Clash: Did the India Opener Cross the Line?

Tensions boiled over on the opening day of the second Test between India and Sri Lanka in Colombo, as India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sri Lankan fast bowler Asitha Fernando were involved in a heated on-field confrontation.

Jaiswal had looked in good touch, scoring 45 runs from 53 deliveries, including nine boundaries. Fernando, however, produced the breakthrough in the 17th over, with Jaiswal chopping the ball back onto his stumps.

The dismissal was followed by an animated send-off from Fernando. Jaiswal initially began walking back towards the pavilion but then turned around and approached the Sri Lankan pacer. The exchange quickly became heated, with the two players coming face-to-face and apparent physical contact occurring before teammates intervened. Sri Lanka captain Dhananjaya de Silva was among those who helped separate the pair.

🎙️ Manjrekar: “Jaiswal crossed the line”

Former India batter and commentator Sanjay Manjrekar criticised Jaiswal's reaction during the incident.

Speaking on commentary, Manjrekar argued that while verbal exchanges are part of competitive cricket, the batter has a responsibility to maintain his composure. He particularly pointed to Jaiswal turning back and advancing towards Fernando after initially walking away.

“Whatever was said is part and parcel of the game. Things are said. It is our job as batters to keep our cool.”

Manjrekar ultimately concluded that Jaiswal crossed the line on this occasion, particularly because he returned towards the bowler rather than continuing towards the pavilion.

⚖️ ICC takes action

The controversy did not end with the on-field confrontation.

On August 24, the ICC confirmed that both Jaiswal and Fernando were fined 25% of their match fees and received one demerit point each for breaching Article 2.12 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which relates to inappropriate physical contact. Both players admitted the offence and accepted the sanctions, meaning no formal hearing was required.

The ICC's decision also puts the incident into perspective: while the verbal battle was part of the intense Test-match atmosphere, physical contact crossed the disciplinary boundary for both players.

🔥 Passion or Over the Line?

Cricket has always had its share of sledging, heated words and emotional celebrations. But when a verbal exchange develops into physical contact, the line becomes much clearer.

Jaiswal may have felt provoked by Fernando's send-off, while Fernando had just produced an important wicket after conceding three boundaries in the over. Both players were clearly caught up in the emotion of the moment.

But with the ICC now confirming sanctions against both players, the debate remains:

🇮🇳 India Beat Sri Lanka by 165 Runs in Galle to Take 1–0 Lead

GALLE, August 19, 2026 — India have taken a 1–0 lead in the two-match Test series after defeating Sri Lanka by 165 runs in a dramatic first Test at the Galle International Stadium.

Chasing 372 runs for victory, Sri Lanka were eventually bowled out for 206 in 77.4 overs on the fifth day. The result also gave India a memorable victory in their 600th Test match.

⭐ Manav Suthar the match-winner

The outstanding performer was young left-arm spinner Manav Suthar, who claimed 10 wickets in the match.
