Struggling with a tangled SMB? You’re not alone! 🤿🌊

Deploying a Surface Marker Buoy is one of the most important scuba skills to master, but it can quickly become tangled if you’re not prepared.

Here’s how to deploy it smoothly every time:
1️⃣ Fully unroll the SMB line and keep your thumb loosely on the spool so it spins freely but stays secure.

2️⃣ Inflate the SMB using your alternate air source or by mouth, depending on your model, while holding the spool firmly.

3️⃣ Release the SMB slowly, keeping slight tension on the line to avoid tangles. Control the spool as the buoy ascends. Don’t forget to monitor your ascent and complete your safety stop as planned.
