Grudge Match 😤

30/08/2026

Fought til the end 💔

Korea fell short in the 3rd place playoff against China in slippery conditions. The game went down to the wire as Korea were down by a converted try with a minute to play. Captain Jang Jeong Min turned on the after burners to score under the posts as the ho**er rang. The try was converted and scores level before the start of golden point extra time. Unfortunately, the restart went directly out and China were gifted great field position to attack from. Korea were put under pressure, defending multiple phases until they finally broke on the far wing.

In the earlier games, Korea had some late game heroics against United Arab Emirates before being soundly beaten by Hong Kong China.

What a first up tournament from Korea! The lads can hold their heads up high and look forward to the next round in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Day 1 Results | ARESS

Korea started the first match against China well scoring the first try to kick off proceedings. But from there, it was all China as the hosts went over for 3 converted tries. Korea fought back in the late stages to pull within 2 points but time wasn't on their side and they fell short. 😭

The second match didnt go to plan early as Sri Lanka took a 2 score lead late in the first half but a long range try cut it down to 7. Korea leveled shortly after the break but then Sri Lanka replied to go up by 5. In the final minute of the game, Korea received the kickoff deep in their 22 and found space on the edge to go the length of the field for the match-tying try under the posts and a simple conversion to win it at the death. 🤯

The final match of Day 1 against Kazakhstan was played with more control and calm. Korea went over twice in the first half, one off a fortuitous grubber and score and the other was another long range run down the right sideline. They managed to hold Kazakhstan to just 1 try, securing their second win of the day! 🥳

Bring on Day 2! 🙌
