This is quite a special newsletter I’m sharing with you today — a testimonial from Christine Taieb, a participant from the association Casioppeea, who travels the world.
“ANGKOR Trail first appeared as a flyer on my ‘bucket list’, pinned to the busy schedule of an ‘active retired grandma’: discovering the famous temples of Angkor and running a marathon… It immediately stirred my legs, always eager for sporting and human adventures! (…)
From the moment we checked in our luggage, the welcome was warm and conversations between runners joyful. We runners have a gift for recognizing one another, exchanging stories about our sporting journeys, and sharing impressions. My instinct quickly spots the seasoned ultra-trailers, and I love learning from their experience. (...)
As a result, the long hours of flights and transfers pass by smoothly. Upon arrival, the hotel is truly very comfortable and makes you dream of recovery swims and massages. It also turns out to be wonderfully located, within walking distance of the main attractions in the city of Siem Reap.
The tourism program I chose, "Discoveries around the Temples of Angkor,’"delighted me during the five days leading up to the race. The visits were fascinating, and the lunches delicious, shared with people who had already become my new friends. (…)
When race day finally arrives — or rather race night, since I started at 6 a.m. wearing a headlamp — emotions begin to rise. Despite all the kilometers already covered (some would say all the flight hours!) and the race bibs worn over nearly 30 years, a little tear still appears at the starting signal. (…)
The course allows runners to admire these famous and magnificent temples, meet local people while crossing villages, and fully grasp the stretches of laterite tracks and rice fields to cover, as well as the steps to climb.
My usual pace, always very slow and ideal for appreciating the scenery, together with the sections shared by all race formats, allowed me to be overtaken by runners from the 64 km and 100 km races. Their kind and encouraging "Good job, Grandma!" gave me fresh energy for the final miles. (…)
ANGKOR Trail offers a wonderful intergenerational and multicultural experience thanks to the more than 50 nationalities represented. I love the contact with elite athletes who remain approachable and caring, and the constant gathering point in the hotel lobby. I also love the marathon distance on a trail course. (…)
My medal tree keeps growing richer. But above all, I am richer in unforgettable encounters and in a rare human and sporting experience, made possible by the dedication and expertise of a perfectly organized team.”
So, like Christine, register for the 10th edition of the ANGKOR Trail, an anniversary date not to be missed...
