THE STORY BEHIND FUTA BEST JUNIOR LEAGUE ⚽❤️

Every great journey has a beginning, and the story of FUTA BEST Junior League is a story of vision, sacrifice, teamwork and believing in the power of football to change lives.

It all started in December 2023, when a few passionate individuals, among them Mardlyne Konah Odong, came together with a simple but powerful idea: How can we keep our children and young people meaningfully engaged during the holidays while helping them stay away from drugs, crime and other negative influences?

The answer was football. ⚽

With very limited resources but a big dream, we decided to organize an inter-base tournament at Kaloleni Handball Court. It was not about trophies or fame—it was about giving young people a safe space to play, connect, learn and dream.

The tournament became a success, with Wazoefu Live emerging as champions after defeating Wastarabu on penalties. 🏆

But that was only the beginning.

In early 2025, Mardlyne Konah Odong took another important step. She saw the bigger picture and decided to bring Makadara Member of Parliament, Hon. George Aladwa, into the journey. His involvement opened another chapter for FUTA BEST and helped push the vision beyond a simple holiday tournament into something much bigger.

Today, FUTA BEST has grown into a platform dedicated to nurturing young footballers, creating opportunities, mentoring children and building a positive future through sports.

What started with a few individuals and an idea has become a movement.

From a small tournament at Kaloleni Handball Court to the FUTA BEST Junior League, the journey reminds us that great things often begin with small steps and courageous people who choose to believe before others can see the vision.

To Mardlyne Konah Odong and every person who believed in FUTA BEST from the beginning—this story carries your fingerprints.

And to the young players we serve, always remember:

Some people leave footprints. Others leave a legacy.

Mercy Maya — “Mama Simo” was one of the most loved and respected women, not only in Makadara but across Nairobi. Her warmth, generosity, and genuine love for the community touched the lives of many. To countless young people, she was more than a supporter — she was a mother, a source of encouragement, and a pillar of hope. Her memory continues to live through the people she inspired and the community she cared for.

Then there is Coach Legend Pro — “Baba Daffe,” a man whose story goes far beyond football. Having once played for Gor Mahia, he later dedicated himself to coaching and mentoring young people. Through his work, he has not only developed talented footballers but also helped shape leaders, coaches, and responsible members of society. Some of those he mentored are today coaching top teams in Kenya.

This Sunday, we don't simply gather for a football match. We gather to remember, celebrate and honour two remarkable legacies.
