Kenya Dominates ANOCA Zone V Judo Games

Kenya delivered a strong performance at the ANOCA Zone V Youth Games, topping the judo medal standings with five gold, three silver and one bronze as the team continues its preparations for the Youth Olympic Games.

Among the standout performers was Rael Kulova, who claimed gold in the women’s -52kg category after moving up from -48kg with the Youth Olympics in mind. John Ouko (-73kg), Kelvin Onganya (-66kg), Haron Benson (-60kg) and Abuta Vincent (-90kg) also struck gold for Kenya.

The performance was further strengthened by silver medals from Isaac Otieno, Quinter Gracious and Triza Juma, while Arnold Yafunga and Rosemary Wanjiru secured bronze.

National team coach Peterson Mbugua praised the athletes' performance, noting that the Games provided an important platform to identify and prepare athletes with potential to represent Kenya at the Youth Olympics.

With strong performances on the tatami and a growing focus on developing judo in schools, Kenya’s next generation of judoka is showing plenty of promise. 🇰🇪🥋

The dream is finally being executed.

Grace None, this morning departed for Hungary to pursue the Nursing in Physiotherapy Scholarship.

Safe flight, None, and thank you to all who made this possible, led by our Federation President, who is also the Chairman of African Judo Union and the National Olympics Committee of Kenya President, Shadrack Maluki.

Another milestone for Kenyan Judo 🇰🇪🥋

Judo continues to open doors beyond the tatami.

At 21 years old, Grace None has added another important milestone to her growing judo journey.

The -57kg judoka, who has won 1 Continental Bronze Medal and 27 National Medals, has secured a place under the Stipendium Hungaricum Sports Scholarship.

Grace will pursue Nursing in Physiotherapy in Hungary, joining two other Kenyans already studying there under the scholarship.

This is a proud moment for Kenya Judo and a good example of what we mean when we talk about athlete development. Our responsibility is not only to prepare athletes to compete, but also to help create opportunities that can shape their lives beyond competition.

We appreciate the leadership of President Shadrack Maluki, whose continued focus on athlete welfare, development, education and creating international opportunities has helped strengthen this pathway for our judokas.

Grace's achievement is a reminder that the work we do in judo can have an impact far beyond medals.

Judo for Schools continues to transform lives, one institution at a time. 🥋🇰🇪

The Kenya Judo Federation today marked another milestone with the successful launch of the Nkoroi Senior School Judo Club in Kajiado North. The Federation was represented by Communications Director Mercy Masai and Sports Director Peter Basilio, alongside senior coaches, in a well-organized event hosted by the school's management under the leadership of the Principal.

The launch is part of the Judo for Schools pilot project, a visionary initiative spearheaded by Kenya Judo Federation President, National Olympic Committee of Kenya President, and African Judo Union Chairman, Shadrack Maluki. Through his unwavering commitment to grassroots development, President Maluki continues to champion the expansion of Judo into schools, nurturing young talent while instilling the values of discipline, respect, integrity, and excellence. His leadership has elevated not only Kenyan Judo but also strengthened the sport's profile across the continent and within the Olympic movement.

The Kenya Judo Federation congratulates the Nkoroi Senior School community on embracing The Gentle Way and looks forward to seeing the club grow into a breeding ground for future champions and responsible citizens.

Today, Zeddy Cherotich's Commonwealth Games campaign came to an end in the repechage, but her story continues to shine far beyond the tatami. As Kenya's first female Olympic judoka and one of the continent's highest-ranked athletes, Zeddy has carried our flag with courage, dignity and unwavering determination. She has shown every young judoka that dreams are worth chasing, no matter how demanding the path.

We are incredibly proud of everything you have achieved and deeply grateful for the sacrifices you continue to make for Kenyan judo. This chapter may have closed without a medal, but it has added another layer to a remarkable journey that is far from over.
