Kenya's Jeremiah Maringa managed 127kg to settle eighth in men’s lightweight. Mark Swan of England took the glory with a lift of 153.9kg, ahead of Nigeria's Roland Ezuruike in second place, and Bonnie Bunyan Gustin of Malaysia in third.

Our super the 2022 Commonwealth Games lightweight bronze medallist, Hellen Wawira, missed the medal bracket by a whisker, finishing fourth in personal best 104.4kgs. Esther Nworgu (119kg) and Esther Oyema (115.5kg) made it a 1-2 for Nigerian with Olivia Broome (106.6) taking bronze for England.

Team Kenya para had the honour of meeting Kenya's ambassador to United Kingdom, Ambassador Maurice Makoloo (in a suit). He took his time to welcome the athletes in Scotland and wished them luck ahead of the Commonwealth Games starting tomorrow in the Scottish city of Glasgow.

They include the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games bronze medallist, Joyce Njuguna, the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games bronze medallist, Hellen Wawira, Rahab Nyambura and Jeremiah Maringa.
