Today, the Junior Centre Family joins Jamaica and the wider world in commemorating the birth of Marcus Mosiah Garvey, born on 17 August 1887 in St. Ann’s Bay, Jamaica.

Garvey was a visionary leader, educator, entrepreneur and the founder of the Universal Negro Improvement Association (UNIA). His message of Black pride, self-reliance, education, economic empowerment and Pan-African unity inspired people across Africa and the African diaspora.
