I go to the big shopping centre twice a year (once in the summer and once in the winter) to get a few basics, and every time I go, I hate it even more.

I hate buying clothes, I hate shopping, I hate consumption, and I’m still wearing stuff from 15-20 years ago, but I do need some new bits occasionally.

But every time I go shopping, the quality seems to get worse. Not only that, but the price doesn’t reflect the decline in quality??? If anything, it seems like I am paying more?

I went earlier to the shopping centre this week, and realised it’s a good joke I don’t smoke because if I did, I’d burn alive from all the fu***ng melted plastic.

WHY IS EVERYTHING MADE OUT OF PLASTIC????

WHERE IS THE DESIGN????

WHERE IS THE QUALITY????

And to then have the audacity to ask me for my phone number so they can send me the receipt via WhatsApp TO SAVE PAPER feels like an absolute joke.

I am too old and too conscious for this s**t.

Slimming World is a toxic cult, and nothing will convince me otherwise.

The majority of the women I’ve coached over the years have done Slimming World at some point n their journey, and not a single one has found longterm success.

In fact, quite the opposite.

Many have had to go to therapy to try and undo the damage this cult has caused to their relationship with food and their body.

Almost all of them now fear entire food groups, and some are even worried about taking a Lemsip because of the number on “syns” it contains.

The Slimming World business model is atrocious, and specifically designed so you fail when you leave - so you then return, time and time again.

No education, no sustainability, no habit changes.

I fu***ng hate it with a passion.

I get asked about alcohol all the time and to be honest, I enjoy a couple of glasses of w**e once or maybe twice a week so it would be wrong of me to tell my members they must never drink.

Is w**e the best thing you could put in my body? No, of course not.

But is it the worst thing you could possibly do? No, of course not.

The difficulty for a lot of the women I coach is when drinking becomes a habit - and that cycle can be really hard to break.

I find it really difficult to say no to a glass of w**e the day after I’ve been out for a big meal. I’m tired (alcohol batters your sleep quality), my head is fuzzy (I am a lightweight 🤣), and for some reason my brain thinks having another glass of w**e will help.

Which it absolutely categorically will not! And rationally, I know that, but sometimes I have to really shut that voice up.

Alcohol and perimenopause are not friends whatsoever, and I am finding the negative side effects are getting worse as I get older (rude).

But I drink w**e from a vineyard that’s around a kilometre from our house, I can see the grapes growing when I drive down our road.

And the pleasure I get from one or two glasses of amazing w**e with a great meal outweighs the “damage” I am doing to my fitness goals.

Maybe this is controversial in the world of fitness where everyone seems to be trying to ✨optimise✨ everything, but I like a couple of glasses of w**e a week - and perhaps like you, I sometimes struggle to say no!

I think we all lost our minds during COVID, I really do. People are so much worse now than before lockdown, and I don’t know what it is.

And before anyone says maybe she’s allergic to the gloves - she had no problem using the bags that are made of the SAME EXACT MATERIAL.

AND, her husband (also sick and sneezing and snotting and coughing) was doing the EXACT SAME THING.

If I die from scarlet fever in the next 2 days, just know it’s because I ate a nectarine 💀

The f**k is wrong with everyone?!?!???

All intentional movement of your body is beneficial, but for the majority of you reading this, intensity in your sessions is important.

Going to the gym, flinging a 1kg dumbbell around, not really giving any consideration to the movement is what I call Wet Fart Training (WFT).

And while WFT isn’t bad for you, it’s also a one-way ticket to saying “the gym doesn’t work”.

Understanding a movement, understanding the muscles it is working, understanding why you’re doing it, and understanding the purpose is crucial for making progress.

If you want to get stronger, lose body fat, and build muscle, you need to progressively overload your muscles over an extended period of time.

And to do that, you need to train with some intensity and it needs to be challenging.

Less is more - fewer exercises in your sessions, heavier loads, fewer reps, more connection to your body.

(PS no Kardashians were harmed in the making of this reel)

Insert motivational quote about never missing a Monday, etc etc etc.

Went to the gym, blasted 137.5kg. Current body weight is 65kg so I’ll take that! Gradually working back up to 140 after pulling back a bit to get some rest.

I’m stronger at 41 than I’ve ever been and I’ve got more to come!

➡️ You will never be ready.

➡️ There will never be a good time.

➡️ There will always be obstacles.

➡️➡️➡️➡️ But the years will continue to pass by, and only you can decide if you want to spend them feeling like s**t ⬅️⬅️⬅️⬅️

You’re better than that 😘

A lawsuit has been filed against Oura, a smart ring brand.

Their devices are really popular, worn to track things like steps, sleep, training, etc.

Oura is being sued for deceiving users about the accuracy of its AI-generated sleep tracking. Their advertising states their devices track sleep with up to “95% accuracy” but this claim is being disputed in this lawsuit.

It alleges that Oura rings are unable to measure any of the physiological signals needed to assess sleep quality or determine sleep stages, and that they instead rely on AI-generated estimates that have “a coin flip’s chance of being correct”.

To be honest, this news is completely unsurprising to me.

Why?

Because I’ve coached so many women who wear devices like this, who tell me stories of their experiences being the polar opposite of what these devices are telling them.

I am not anti-fitness device, but I am very much against people making decisions about how they feel based on what these bits of plastic say.

If you wake up feeling great but your Oura ring says you slept like s**t, it’ll have a knock-on effect to your day.

If you’re exhausted but your Oura ring says your recovery was 100%, you might go do a heavy deadlift session and f**k yourself over.

If you set yourself an arbitrary step goal that necessitates you doing laps around your living room before bed to “earn a badge” on your watch, I believe that is a red flag.

If you set yourself a calorie goal to improve your body composition but your watch says you’ve “burned” an extra 800 calories and so you over eat when you aren’t even hungry, I believe that is a red flag.

We have become so obsessed with trying to “optimise” everything when the majority of people are not even doing the basics.

Lifting heavy stuff 3 times a week.
Eating plenty of plants.
Eating plenty of protein.
Getting off your phone and going to bed.
Going outside and touching grass.

Do these basics, do them well, do them every day, and stop putting all your faith in a bit of plastic on your finger.
