What drives irregularity in the UK’s adult ?

Irregularity is often framed as an individual characteristic. But it can also be the result of the systems people have to navigate.

Local authorities in the UK have lost 46% of their core funding in real terms since 2010, while demand for social care continues to grow. Alongside funding cuts, fragmented commissioning and reliance on private providers have contributed to low pay, insecure work and persistent labour shortages.

Interviews conducted as part of the show how can emerge when workers become dependent on employers for visas, income, housing or even basic survival.

The key conclusion? 💡 Immigration reform alone cannot solve workforce shortages or exploitation in adult social care. A sustainable care sector and workers protection require coordinated action across labour-market enforcement, welfare provision, immigration policy and ASC funding.

Would you like to take part in a transformative programme that brings together unaccompanied minors, local youth, and researchers in Florence to foster inclusion?

We are looking for EUI members willing to become research coaches for the U-Lead Autumn Programme, running from October to December 2026.

Research coaches co-facilitate a small group of young people as they come together and learn, and help ensure that they feel confident and supported as they prepare and rehearse their advocacy presentations, with a focus on clear and effective messaging.

Migration communication campaigns happen across countries and contexts, but how much do we know about them collectively?

Our Migration Communication Campaigns Database brings together 350+ campaigns from across Europe in one open-access resource.

👉It is designed to help researchers, policymakers, practitioners, journalists, and communication professionals explore what has been done, identify patterns and learn from previous campaigns.

And the database is growing!❗We are now looking for experts with knowledge of specific countries to help us identify campaigns that may not yet be included. Do you know of a campaign that should be on the map? Tell us!
