🆕📰 Rato Continues His Progress at Donington as Sofuoglu’s Charge is Halted by Bad Luck

The day began with the ten-lap Superpole Race, where Sofuoglu secured 14th place, while Rato claimed 16th after another solid performance.
Race 2 got underway in the afternoon over 23 laps.

Unfortunately, Sofuoglu’s race was compromised on the opening lap after contact with another rider sent him into the gravel. After returning to the pits, the team repaired the bike and Bahattin rejoined the race, continuing to push and setting competitive lap times until the chequered flag.

Rato once again delivered a positive performance, maintaining a strong and consistent pace throughout the race to finish in 18th position, confirming his steady progress.

The WorldSBK Championship now heads into its summer break before returning for Round 9 at Nevers Magny-Cours in France on 4–6 September.

Sandro Carusi - Team Principal 🗣️ “Mattia continued his positive progression throughout the weekend and managed to reduce the gap to the race pace once again, confirming the progress he’s making every time he gets on the bike. It’s a real shame for Bahattin because his race was effectively over after the contact on the opening lap. The team did a great job repairing the bike, and once he rejoined he was immediately able to set very competitive lap times. Without that incident, I believe he had every chance of fighting for points today.”

🗣️ “It was a positive day overall. The setup we developed using yesterday’s data worked really well, and I think the Superpole Race was my best sprint race of the season so far. Unfortunately, Race 2 didn’t go to plan after the opening lap incident, but it was important to rejoin the race, finish and collect valuable data for the next rounds.”

🗣️ “I’m pleased with how the Superpole Race went this morning and with the pace we showed. In Race 2 I felt competitive until around half distance, but after a couple of incidents ahead of me I lost my rhythm. Overall, it’s been a positive weekend and I’m happy with the work we’ve done together as a team.”

🆕📰 Positive Race 1 at Donington for Sofuoglu and Rato

After completing yesterday’s free practice sessions, Bahattin Sofuoglu and Mattia Rato returned to the track for Superpole, improving their lap times and securing 18th and 20th place on the grid respectively.

Starting from the sixth and seventh rows, both Yamaha Motoxracing WorldSBK Team riders made strong starts and showed a consistent pace throughout the 23-lap race, gaining positions as the race progressed.

Sofuoglu crossed the finish line in 17th place, while Rato, after taking evasive action to avoid another rider’s mistake, lost contact with the group battling ahead and eventually finished 19th.

Tomorrow, the Yamaha Motoxracing WorldSBK Team riders will contest the 10-lap Superpole Race, followed by Race 2, which will conclude the Donington Park round.

Sandro Carusi - Team Principal 🗣️ “Although we didn’t manage to finish in the points, I’m still pleased with our riders’ performance. Even though today’s race was 29 seconds faster than it was in 2025, Mattia continues to make steady progress, while Bahattin lapped one second quicker than he did here last year.”

🗣️ “Over the last two days we’ve worked step by step to improve our bike’s setup, and every change we’ve made has been positive. We’ll continue in the same direction, and we already have a few ideas that we believe will help us achieve better results tomorrow. Thanks to the team for their excellent support.”

🗣️ “It was a good day. Compared to yesterday, we made some changes to the bike that noticeably improved its performance, allowing me to lower my best lap time in Superpole. In Race 1 I was fighting for the points before losing contact with the group after avoiding another rider. After that, I regained my rhythm and maintained a strong pace, which gives me confidence heading into tomorrow’s two races.”
