Interesting first day for our last course of the season. With our group of motivated ‘Intro to XC’ers’ we headed the hill to a slow start. Stability was forecast around 900-1100m, rising to 1400m at the end.

We tentatively set a 32km FAI, with the crossing of the San Liberale gap proving the be the crux, luckily the SW wind was light. As we only reached around 1200m on Vedetta. Big ask!

Once back on ridge we could run to the Lunga, amd village of the Sun, Dan elected the direct way but missed the radius, while Tom after two direct attempts, followed the line of least resistance.

Once high on the nose of the Lunga it was just one climb away from goal. Both Tom and Dan gave great efforts out in the blue flats and landed just shy of goal. Excellent work!

The thermal pilots were getting to grips with their equipment and the most under rated skill in paragliding, when to leave the hill. Not what you may think…

It’s 2008, another great wing from the past. One of my favourites, the Axis Mercury 2008 version. Still a 4 liner and only 6,9 Aspect Ratio. It had trimmers and it had 4 brake lines. You could twist the line that went to the tip to tighten the turn. Though I never got used to it. I believe it still had Mylar and was one of the best wings around the mid 2000s. The reason wasn’t its performance which was good, but its flyability. Total predicable and easy to fly. Photo credit: Daniel Crespo.

Tricky day in the PreAlps, what with the passing of the front in the early morning and the sky took on that leaden look until mid-afternoon. Though the wind was still a feature.

Could be a window tomorrow. Stay tuned!

Fun day on the Grappa today, with base around 1450m the whole ridge was open. However the forecast spreadout came early as the air is more humid with the approaching front and SW winds.

The thicker cloud cut off a lot of the heat getting through but the real saviour was the mini turbo that drew air in close to base. Without this the air would be dead. So staying high was key.

Looks like tomorrow is a write off.

How it started versus how it turned out…

The German Open had their first 60km task here today, in some pretty feisty conditions.

A slow start with stratus blocking the mixing, but once it cleared, the day really got pumping. Eventually, though, it became a victim of its own success, with the forecast spreadout starting to bite.

There are now no places left on next week’s Intro to XC course, and we’re looking forward to our last swan song with you.

Slow start due to stability in the Bassano area today, though conditions slowly improved allowing the group to truly get to grips with the correct carve radius, while practicing keeping it smooth. The meat in the sauce.

Step by step we are building the foundation of an evergreen technique that works anywhere, anytime. Stoked to see the progress in such a short time to be honest.

Ok, so we are finalising the date of the first Masterclass in understanding, charting and reading SkewTs. No more time wasted knowing whether to drive to a site again or even dare to call in sick 😉

It will be mid-late October, cost 150€ and take around 2hrs. Numbers limited to 6 pilots so questions can be raised. What day is most preferable?

Tough first day for our Intro XC course this week, strong SW across the hill made things tricky but the guys still managed close to an hour in a stable, breezy busy sky.

Well we tried, last day of the last Pure XC for 2026. The group that remained after the bad weather waited for the ground to dry out a touch and base to rise and the first round of spread out to dissipate.

However it wasn’t to be. We tried WM, Casoni then off to Marostica but the spreadout reared its head again and sent the whole area in shade. Not to my surprise really as the SkewT predicted it.
