Metta (Loving-Kindness) meditation is a practical method for training the mind toward genuine goodwill and emotional stability.

Rather than waiting for feelings of warmth or patience to arise spontaneously, Metta provides a structured framework to actively cultivate compassionβ€”starting with yourself and expanding outward.

Swipe through the guide for a breakdown of the 5 traditional stages, core phrases, and practical steps to get started.

Which stage of practice do you find most rewarding or challenging? Let me know below. πŸ‘‡

Yoga Nidra isn't the guided nap it looks like from the outside β€” falling fully asleep during the practice isn't the deep version of it, it's missing the point entirely.

It's a deliberately scripted threshold between waking and sleeping, where the body is guided into stillness while awareness is asked to stay lit right at the edge.

Attention moves through a rotation of consciousness β€” named points of the body in sequence β€” anchoring it at that threshold without any real effort.

And near the start, while the mind is unusually soft and receptive, a sankalpa is planted: one short resolve, in your own words, repeated again at the close so it has two chances to take root.

None of that can happen if you're actually asleep.

The goal was never rest for its own sake β€” it was staying awake at the one moment the mind is malleable enough to actually change.

Save this before your next "guided nap" claim undersells what the practice is actually built to do.

Ishvara pranidhana gets flattened into "let go and let God" β€” passive, low-effort, nearly an excuse to stop trying before the work is even finished.

But Patanjali places it last among the niyamas, at the peak of the practice, not at the start where giving up would be the easy move.

It comes after full effort, never instead of it. The niyama asks you to do the work completely β€” the pose, the plan, the relationship, whatever it is β€” and only then release your grip on exactly how or when it lands.

Giving up quits before the effort starts; surrender finishes the effort and lets go anyway, which is a far harder discipline than either trying or quitting alone.

The outcome was never fully yours to hold in the first place.

Save this for the next time you're white-knuckling a result that was never fully in your hands to begin with.

Svadhyaya gets turned into a stack of books, a podcast queue, a feed full of other people's takes on the self β€” all of it aimed outward, at someone else's insight about being human.

But the word literally means turning your own attention on yourself, and the study it describes has exactly one subject: you, not the author, not the teacher, not the algorithm's favorite quote about growth.

You can finish every book on the shelf and still have no idea why you reacted the way you did this morning, because that reaction was never going to show up in someone else's paragraph.

The niyama was never asking you to know more about yoga, philosophy, or anyone else's process β€” it was asking you to know more about your own, closely enough to actually recognize the pattern the next time it runs.

Save this, then notice one pattern you ran today on autopilot, without reading a single page about it.

One safety note that doesn't make it onto most beginner guides: if you have a history of epilepsy, skip the candle flame entirely β€” the flicker can be a trigger β€” and use a black dot on paper instead.

Same technique, same benefits, no risk.

The word itself is thousands of years old β€” it shows up in texts like the Rigveda and Atharvaveda, long before it became a yoga class sign-off.

None of that history needs the "light in me" gloss to feel meaningful; "I bow to you" already carries real weight on its own.

Did you know the literal translation, or had you always heard the poetic version? Tell me below.

Most online dosha quizzes are measuring your vikriti β€” your current state β€” and handing it back like it's a permanent identity.

Your real prakriti, the ratio you were born with, can be single-doshic, dual-doshic, or fairly even across all three, and it doesn't shift with your week.

Worth knowing the difference before you build your whole diet around a quiz result.

Do you actually know your prakriti, or just how you're feeling this week? Tell me below.

Ahimsa gets taught as a rule about how you treat other people.

In practice, most of us break it against ourselves before breakfast β€” the running commentary, the comparison, the "I should be further along by now."

Patanjali put it first among the Yamas because everything else in the practice sits on top of it.

Where do you catch yourself breaking ahimsa against yourself? Tell me below.

Nadi Shodhana isn't calming because of anything mystical β€” it's the slow, equal breath that shifts your nervous system out of stress mode, and the effects show up faster than most people expect with consistent daily practice.

None of that happens if you're rushing the pattern to check a box.

Slow down before you speed up. How long do you usually sit for this β€” a few rounds, or a full practice?

Tell me below.
