📚 What happens when dancers read together?
Today, we began Reading Laboratory, a new monthly initiative at Pune International Centre, jointly presented by our Art & Culture Area and the Centre of Contemporary Dance, led by contemporary and Kathak practitioner Hrishikesh Pawar.
The first session created a space to slow down, read, reflect and exchange ideas—exploring dance beyond movement and opening up conversations around artistic practice, the body, performance and more.
This is just the beginning. Stay tuned as we bring you more from the Reading Laboratory and the conversations it sparks.
Centre Of Contemporary Dance
We are proud to be the only dance school in the city providing a library for research on contemporary dance.
We at the centre, believe everyone moves in some way or the other, to get de-stressed, fit and connected to their bodies. The Centre Of Contemporary Dance is a committed organization to contemporary dance and physical theatre. The main objective of the school is to promote this fastest growing art form in India. Contemporary Dance form can be conceived as a new way of communication through the hum

What happens when dancers read together? 📚
Introducing Reading Laboratory, a Centre of Contemporary Dance monthly initiative led by Hrishikesh Pawar, created as a space to slow down, read deeply, question, reflect, and exchange ideas.
This is not a book club. It is an invitation to explore dance beyond movement, through books on choreography, the body, performance, pedagogy, philosophy, and artistic practice.
Participants will choose a book from a curated collection, spend time reading and annotating a chapter, and then come together for a facilitated sharing circle, bringing their questions, interpretations, and resonances into a collective conversation.
A space to read.
A space to think.
A space to move.

Have labels shaped your identity, or have you found ways to move beyond them?
Moving beyond boundaries, Fluid Frontiers by Hrishikesh Pawar is a powerful dance production that navigates the intersection of art and social justice. Through a vibrant fusion of movement, digital technology, and real-life storytelling, this piece boldly confronts oppressive structures and challenges the hegemonic norms that define our society. By highlighting themes of identity, inclusivity, and gender fluidity within a postcolonial world, the performance serves as a catalyst for progressive change and deep conversation.
Happy Pride Day to everyone embracing their authentic selves and breaking barriers both on and off the stage! 🏳️🌈✨
On this World Environment Day, we return to Utrai.
to the rehearsals of a powerful collaboration with the Pralay Band (Ecology Society Band), a contemporary Kathak journey inspired by the verses of mystical saint-poets.
Through movement, poetry, and live music, Utrai reflects on our growing distance from nature and the timeless wisdom of living simply and mindfully.
“Pani mein, meen pyasi”
The fish is thirsty in water.
A reminder that what we seek is often already around us. As we mark World Environment Day, we revisit this work that invites us to reconnect with the sacredness of the natural world and the beauty of the everyday.
