Some asanas stay in the mind long before they arrive in the body.🍀
Maksikanagasana (Dragonfly) was one of them.
An advanced arm balance I had looked at many times, but never really imagined myself doing. And then, during my time in Mysore, something shifted. I tried it… and for the first time, I found my way into it.
This morning, I came back to Maksikanagasana again — and there it was. Not perfect, not effortless, but present. 🤍
Physically, it asks for hip mobility, spinal rotation, hamstring flexibility, core strength, shoulder stability and balance. But once you are there, it asks for something deeper:
Stillness. Focus. Breath.
In that moment, the breath, gaze and body come together, and the senses begin to turn inward. Perhaps this is where asana, pranayama and pratyahara begin to prepare us for the antaranga limbs — dharana, dhyana and ultimately samadhi.
And that is what I love about advanced asanas. Beyond strength and flexibility, they remind me that progress cannot always be forced.
We prepare, practise, condition, fall, return… and sometimes, when we least expect it, the body simply says — now. ✨
From “I don’t think I can do this” to finding stillness in Maksikanagasana.
Deep gratitude to my teacher, Bharat Shetty Sir, for knowing my limitations, yet gently guiding, encouraging and helping me discover what was still possible. 🙏🤍
The practice continues.
