Namibia edge Vidarbha in series-opener
Hosts Namibia defeated Vidarbha by two wickets in the opening game of the of the 5-match one-day series in Windhoek on Thursday.
Chasing Vidarbha’s tally of 260/8, Namibia recovered from 17/3 to scrape home on the last ball of their innings.
Namibia, in fact, needed 16 runs from the last over bowled by Saurabh Dubey. Ruben Trumplelmann hit the first ball for a six and the third for a boundary before finishing the games with well-run twos.
KKR’s star bowler Saurabh, however, was Vidarbha’s most successful bowler with four wickets for 48 runs.
He started brilliantly by dismissing Namibian opener Malan Kruger with his third delivery and later picked up three more wickets.
Saurabh and fellow-pacer Aditya Thakare (3/44) revelled on a fast and bouncy track which offered little help to the spinners.
Earlier, Mandar Mahale (51) and Jagjot Sasan (50) made half centuries after Namibia opted to bowl. Yash Rathod chipped in with 46, but in spite of a belligerent unbeaten 44 by Nachiket Bhute, Vidarbha could muster only a below par total of 260/8.
The second match will be played on Saturday (July 4) from 1:00 PM (IST)
