This reel is an excerpt from Dr Reena Singh's interview of me, a few years back. This interview (1:45:48 minutes long) has been a precious resource for many parents who told me that they took a plunge into the world of anthroposophy and Waldorf education after watching it. So eternally grateful to Dr Reena Singh at Reena Singh |
Occupational therapist for guiding so many parents through her work.
You can watch the whole interview and many more on her channel Reena Singh |

Niraamayaa
Dear friends,
My name is Nirupama Rao. I am a Psychologist with 23 years of experience in the fields of Child Development, Parenting and Education.
Niraamayaa believes that "Our children are not our children, but are the children of life's longing for itself" Its a parent consultancy where we help and guide parents in understanding their children better, to be their advocates and their facilitators. I have worked in various school and hospital settings in Surat, Bangalore and Mumbai. I have run a centre for children with various special needs
Democratic (or authoritative - wonder why it's called that though) is the kind of parenting that is respectful, warm, loving and balanced and gives children the freedom of speech but at the same time giving the children boundaries that keep them safe and secure.
What kind of parents did you have? And what do you believe is your style? And why?

Happy Parenting and a happy independence day!
The less we think, the more relaxed our muscles are. Let's take a thought break each day and calm down our nervous system. Let's use our limbs more and reduce screen time. At least for some time everyday.
Healthy, well regulated children need healthy, well regulated parents.
At Niraamayaa, our focus is as much on the caregivers as it is on children.
Take care!
Dear parents, the times have changed. Let's normalize mental health conversations. Let's normalize seeking help even if it feels trivial to you. For your child it may not be trivial. I know so many teenagers who can't go for therapy because their parents don't believe in it. They feel that the children are overreacting... Until it's too late...

And a woman who held a babe against her bosom said, Speak to us of Children.
And he said:
Your children are not your children.
They are the sons and daughters of Life’s longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you,
And though they are with you yet they belong not to you.
You may give them your love but not your thoughts,
For they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies but not their souls,
For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow, which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.
You may strive to be like them, but seek not to make them like you.
For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.
You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth.
The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite, and He bends you with His might that His arrows may go swift and far.
Let your bending in the archer’s hand be for gladness;
For even as He loves the arrow that flies, so He loves also the bow that is stable.
Khalil Gibran
I have made many mistakes as a parent, which I regret. But at that time, I thought I was doing the right thing!
I still make mistakes in spite of being an aware parent as I still carry some old patterns set in my nervous system that I'm unconscious of.
Our children help us evolve by holding a mirror to us.
Let's forgive ourselves, our parents, our past, and make the best of today and tomorrow.
Happy Parenting!

I really love this creative. Gives parents twelve gestures in the care of babies, toddlers and young children. Take a printout, make a poster and dwell on each point and take it in...
This is based on Rolf Heine's twelve gestures of Nursing.
