Indian Wushu Team Calls on Hon'ble Chief Minister of J&K Ahead of 20th Asian Games
Srinagar, June 22, 2026: The Indian Wushu Team for the 20th Asian Games called on the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir, Jenab Omar Abdullah, at his residence in Srinagar today.
The Indian Wushu Team has been undergoing intensive training at the Sher-i-Kashmir Indoor Sports Complex (SKISC), Srinagar, from 20th May to 23rd June 2026 in preparation for the 20th Asian Games. The Wushu Association of India conducted the final selection trials at SKISC, Srinagar, from 5th to 8th June 2026, during which six athletes in Sanda and seven athletes in Taolu were selected to represent the country at the prestigious event.
Earlier, the Sports Authority of India organized a 40-day National Coaching Camp at SKISC, Srinagar, considering its world-class infrastructure, international-standard equipment, and favourable climatic conditions, making it one of the finest training venues in the country.
The team was led by National Chief Coach of India, Shri Kuldeep Handoo, Dronacharya Awardee, along with coaches Shri Amit Pal (Army), Ms Aparna (Income Tax Department), Ms Divanshi (Rajasthan), Ms Ansa Chishti (J&K), Shri Surya Bhanu Pratap Singh (J&K), Shri A***n (Haryana), and Shri Suraj Yadav (Uttar Pradesh). The medical support staff comprised Dr Ehsaan (J&K) and Dr Mahira (Uttar Pradesh).
During the interaction, Shri Kuldeep Handoo requested the Hon'ble Chief Minister to establish a permanent Wushu Training Hall in Srinagar and a High Altitude Training Centre at Gulmarg to cater to National Coaching Camps and to further develop Jammu & Kashmir as a hub for sports in the country. The proposal was graciously appreciated, and the Hon'ble Chief Minister assured all possible support for the promotion and development of Wushu and other sporting disciplines in the Union Territory.
The team is scheduled to depart for China on 23rd June 2026 to participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Wushu Championship in Hubei Province, followed by a one-month foreign exposure training programme at Beijing Sport University.

The Indian Wushu Team for the 20th Asian Games led by the National Chief Coach of India, Kuldeep Handoo, Dronacharya Awardee, called on Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today.
The team is scheduled to depart for China on June 23, 2026, to compete in the prestigious Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Wushu Championship, being held in Hubei Province. Following the conclusion of the championship, the team will undergo a one-month intensive training programme at the Beijing Sport University to further hone their skills for upcoming international events.
The Lieutenant Governor extended best wishes to the athletes and officials for the 20th Asian Games. He urged the team to give their best, bring home laurels, and make the nation proud on the global stage.
Amit Pal, Aparna, Jyotsna, Ansa Chishti, Surya Bhanu Pratap Singh, A***n, Suraj Yadav, and team doctor Dr Ehsaan were also present.
