Two Brothers, One Passion: A Memorable Netball Semifinal at the YSS Kulgam Inter-School District Tournament
Kulgam :- The Inter-School District Level Netball Tournament, organised by the Department of Youth Services & Sports (YSS) Kulgam, witnessed one of its most exciting and memorable semifinal encounters.
What made the match truly special was that the two competing girls' teams were guided by two real brothers—Mr. Mohammad Shafi of HSS Nihama and Mr. Gulzar Ahmad of GHSS Kulgam. Standing on opposite sidelines, both brothers passionately motivated and encouraged their respective teams throughout the match.
The contest was intense, with both teams displaying excellent teamwork, determination, and fighting spirit. Every point was fiercely contested, keeping spectators engaged until the final whistle. In the end, one team secured a place in the final while the other finished as a semifinalist, proving that in sports, victory and defeat are both part of the game.

Department of Youth Services & Sports Organizes Five-Day Refresher Course in Kurash at Training Base Camp, Nagrota
Jammu,: Under the visionary leadership and guidance of the Director General, Department of Youth Services & Sports, J&K, Smt. Anrudha Gupta (JKAS), the Department continues to strengthen its training programmes aimed at empowering Physical Education professionals through regular capacity-building initiatives and technical refresher courses.
In pursuance of this objective, the Department successfully organized a Five-Day Refresher Course in the discipline of Kurash from 8th July 2026 to 12th July 2026 at the Training Base Camp, Nagrota.
The refresher course was designed to enhance the technical competence, coaching skills, and officiating knowledge of Physical Education Teachers, Masters, and sports professionals. The programme featured intensive theoretical and practical sessions covering the latest rules and regulations, advanced coaching techniques, scientific training methods, competition management, and safety protocols in the discipline of Kurash.
The overall supervision of the refresher course was entrusted to Sh. Sukhdev Raj Sharma, DYSSO Jammu, who served as the Overall In-charge of the camp and ensured its smooth and successful conduct. Ms. Harvinder Kour, ZPEO Jammu, performed the responsibilities of Nodal Officer, efficiently coordinating the academic and administrative arrangements throughout the programme.
The technical sessions were conducted by Sh. Jatin Kumar, who served as the Resource Person for Kurash. Through his expert guidance, practical demonstrations, and interactive training sessions, the participants gained valuable knowledge of modern coaching methodologies, technical skills, officiating standards, and the latest developments in the sport.
Speaking on the occasion, the Department reiterated that such refresher programmes play a vital role in upgrading the professional capabilities of Physical Education professionals, enabling them to effectively promote sports and identify young talent at the grassroots level. These initiatives reflect the Department's commitment to developing a strong sporting culture and improving the quality of sports education across the Union Territory.
The participants expressed their sincere gratitude to the Director General, Smt. Anrudha Gupta (JKAS), for initiating such meaningful training programmes and appreciated the efforts of the Department in providing opportunities for continuous professional development. They also acknowledged the valuable guidance of the camp management and the Resource Person, which greatly enhanced their learning experience.

Khan Sultan Legends are Champions of BCA Legends League
Khan Sultan Legends emerged as the champions of the BCA Legends League after defeating DCC Darigund by one wicket in a nail biting grand finale played today at Nilandrus Ground, Bijbehara. The tournament was organized by the Bijbehara Cricket Association (BCA) to honour former cricketers and promote active and healthy lifestyles among veteran players.
After winning the toss, DCC Darigund opted to bat first and posted a competitive total of 169 runs in their allotted 20 overs. Khurshid Ahmad led the batting with a splendid 66 run knock, while Nazir Ahmad and Tajamul contributed 29 and 20 runs respectively. For Khan Sultan Legends, Manzoor Nath delivered an impressive bowling performance, claiming three wickets, while Tariq Ahmad chipped in with two wickets.
Chasing 170 for victory, Khan Sultan Legends held their nerve in a thrilling contest and reached the target on the last ball of the match, securing a memorable one wicket win. Sajad Ahmad produced a magnificent unbeaten 91 run innings to guide his side to victory and was deservedly adjudged the Player of the Match. Towseef Dar also made a valuable contribution with 18 runs. For DCC Darigund, Gh. Nabi claimed three wickets, while Mohammad Ashraf picked up two wickets.
For his exceptional consistency with the bat throughout the tournament, Sajad Ahmad was also honoured with the Man of the Tournament award after accumulating 196 runs, playing a pivotal role in Khan Sultan's Legends' title winning campaign.
Following the triumph, the management of Khan Sultan Legends congratulated the players for their outstanding commitment, discipline, teamwork, and fighting spirit. The management also extended sincere appreciation to the Bijbehara Cricket Association for successfully organizing the tournament in a professional manner and for providing former cricketers with an excellent platform to showcase their talent, rekindle their passion for the game, and promote a healthy and active lifestyle.
The BCA Legends League was conceived to recognize and celebrate the invaluable contributions of former cricketers while encouraging veteran players to remain actively involved in the sport.
