Astounding Meghalaya tour conducted by Soma's Camps got over on 16th July 2026. We covered so many exquisite and remote corners of Meghalaya. We travelled to India's first designated Eri Silk Village. Saw how the "ahimsa silk" is cultivated then extracted, dyed in vegetable dyes and woven into beautiful stoles, scarves and neckties...the entire story. And if we are in Meghalaya how can we miss Umiam Lake? So we didn't. We also spent one night in Mawlynnong, famously known as "Asia's Cleanest Village". Walked through a pristine, sacred, 78-hectare forest protected for centuries by local Khasi religious and cultural traditions. Explored caves famous for its visible, ancient fossils—including crustacean shells and fish bones—embedded in its limestone walls. Watched with awe thunderous Kynrem waterfalls, Noh Kali Kai, Elephant waterfalls, Garden of caves, Wei se D**g, Dainthlen, Krang shuri , Borhill and Phe Phe. Walked on an amazing living root bridge at Riwai and enjoyed the vista on the other side. Visited the fascinating Ward's Lake and Don Bosco Museum. And I am not even starting with the amazing food.

সোমা'স ক্যাম্পস-এর অসাধারণ মেঘালয় ট্যুর সফলভাবে শেষ হলো ১৬ই জুলাই, ২০২৬।
এই সফরে আমরা ঘুরে দেখেছি মেঘালয়ের বহু অপূর্ব এবং অপেক্ষাকৃত অজানা প্রান্ত। পৌঁছে গিয়েছিলাম ভারতের প্রথম স্বীকৃত এরি সিল্ক ভিলেজে। কাছ থেকে দেখেছি কীভাবে "অহিংসা সিল্ক" উৎপাদিত হয়—রেশম চাষ থেকে শুরু করে সুতো বের করা, প্রাকৃতিক উদ্ভিজ্জ রঙে রঙিন করা এবং শেষ পর্যন্ত সেই সুতো দিয়ে সুন্দর স্টোল, স্কার্ফ ও নেকটাই বোনা—পুরো প্রক্রিয়াটাই।
আর মেঘালয়ে এসে উমিয়াম লেক না দেখে কি ফেরা যায়? তাই সেই অনিন্দ্যসুন্দর লেকের শান্ত সৌন্দর্যও উপভোগ করেছি। কাটিয়েছি এক রাত মাওলিনং-এ, যা "এশিয়ার সবচেয়ে পরিচ্ছন্ন গ্রাম" নামে বিশ্বজোড়া খ্যাত। হেঁটেছি ৭৮ হেক্টর বিস্তৃত এক পবিত্র অরণ্যের মধ্যে, যা শতাব্দীর পর শতাব্দী ধরে স্থানীয় খাসি জনগোষ্ঠীর ধর্মীয় ও সাংস্কৃতিক ঐতিহ্যের অংশ হিসেবে সযত্নে সংরক্ষিত।
অন্বেষণ করেছি এমন এক গুহা, যার চুনাপাথরের দেওয়ালে আজও স্পষ্ট দেখা যায় কোটি কোটি বছরের প্রাচীন জীবাশ্ম—ক্রাস্টেশিয়ানের খোলস, মাছের হাড় এবং আরও নানা নিদর্শন। মুগ্ধ হয়ে দেখেছি গর্জনরত কিনরেম ফলস, নোহকালিকাই, ওয়াই সে ডং, এলিফ্যান্ট ফলস, গার্ডেন অব কেভস, ডেইন্থলেন, ক্রাং শুরি, বরহিল এবং ফে ফে জলপ্রপাতের অপরূপ সৌন্দর্য।
রিওয়াইয়ের বিখ্যাত লিভিং রুট ব্রিজ-এর ওপর দিয়ে হেঁটে পৌঁছে উপভোগ করেছি ওপারের মনোমুগ্ধকর দৃশ্য। ঘুরে দেখেছি সুন্দর ওয়ার্ডস লেক এবং সমৃদ্ধ ডন বস্কো মিউজিয়াম। আর মেঘালয়ের অসাধারণ খাবারের কথা তো এখনও বলাই শুরু করিনি!
