♟🤩 The team lists for the 46th FIDE Chess Olympiad have been published, revealing a field filled with World Champions, established national-team powers, and some of the brightest young players in chess. 400 teams have been confirmed over the two competitions: 208 in the Open and 192 in the Women’s event. That is twenty more than the record field of 380 at Budapest 2024!

The opening ceremony will take place in Samarkand on September 15, followed by 11 classical rounds of competition from September 16 to 27. Based on the submitted line-ups, the United States head the Open starting list, followed by defending champions India, hosts Uzbekistan, China and Germany. In the Women’s competition, India is the top seed team ahead of Georgia, China, Kazakhstan and the United States.

The S8UL star Nihal Sarin is the 2026 Bullet Chess Champion! Nihal defeated the defending Champion Alireza Firouzja 14.5-7.5 in the Grand Finals, and 9.5-5.5 in the Grand Final Reset to win the title - with an incredible 15-game win streak against Alireza across the Grand Finals!

Nihal's journey to win the Bullet Chess Championship was nothing short of inspiring. After a great run till the semifinals, Nihal lost a close match against Alireza Firouzja in the Winners semifinals. Nihal went on to mount a fantastic comeback - he defeated Oleksandr Bortnyk in the Losers Bracket Quarterfinals, Andrew Tang in the losers bracket semifinals, and Arjun Erigaisi in the losers Bracket Finals. Nihal went on to defeat Alireza in dominating fashion in the Grand Final and Grand Final Reset!

A huge congratulations to Nihal for winning the Bullet Chess Championships - in all his years of playing this event, this was the first time Nihal reached the Finals - and he won it all!

It is with great sadness that FIDE learned of the sudden passing of Woman FIDE Master, FIDE Arbiter and FIDE Trainer Beata Andrejczuk-Dudzińska at the age of 38.

Beata showed her talent at an early age, winning the Polish Women's Blitz Championship in 2005 as a teenager. Many more achievements followed over the years. She remained deeply involved in chess throughout her life, helping nearly a thousand people improve their chess and develop a love for the game.

Outside chess, Beata was a passionate traveller who dreamed of seeing the whole world. She visited around 150 countries, always eager to discover new places and cultures.

FIDE extends its deepest condolences to her family and loved ones, as well as to the entire Polish chess community. Beata will be remembered with great warmth and respect.

By the time both sides have moved just twice, the complexity balloons to 197,742 potential scenarios, showcasing the relentless geometric growth that defines the "royal game" and challenges even the world's most powerful supercomputers.

The true scale of this complexity becomes incomprehensible as the game reaches its tenth turn. At this stage, the number of potential positions reaches a staggering 170 octillion—a figure so vast it highlights why chess remains an inexhaustible field of study for mathematicians and grandmasters alike. This exponential expansion ensures that within just 64 squares lies a universe of strategic possibility that humanity has yet to fully map, proving that every game played is likely unique in the history of the world.
