Children Learn What They Live. 🧠🌱
Children often learn how to respond to emotions and conflict by observing their primary caregivers/parents. When a child repeatedly experiences a caregiver/parents shouting, threatening, or becoming emotionally overwhelming, different children may develop different coping responses.
1️⃣ Fight — “I will shout back.”
Some children respond to shouting with shouting. They may become aggressive, argumentative, or defensive because they have learned that loudness is how conflict is handled.
2️⃣ Flight — “I need to get away.”
Some children withdraw, leave the situation, become silent, or avoid confrontation. Over time, avoidance can become their preferred way of dealing with conflict. In adulthood, this may sometimes show up as emotional distancing or difficulty facing relationship conflicts.
3️⃣ Fawn / Freeze — “Please don't be angry with me.” This is the most difficult phase for any child. Some children try desperately to calm the caregiver: “Please don't shout… I'm sorry… I'll do whatever you want.”
They may feel small, powerless, guilty, or responsible for keeping everyone happy. Later in life, this can sometimes develop into people-pleasing, difficulty setting boundaries, or fear of disappointing others.
🌱 The important point:
A child is not simply being “naughty,” “weak,” or “over-sensitive.” They may be adapting to the emotional environment around them.
Children don't only listen to what we teach them.
They watch how we behave, especially when we are angry, stressed, or frustrated.
So if we want emotionally healthy children, we must also model healthy ways of expressing anger, communicating, apologizing, and repairing relationships.
Children learn emotional regulation by experiencing it from us. ❤️

When Life is Overwhelming
When Life Feels Overwhelming… 🌿
When everything feels like too much, don’t try to solve your whole life at once.
Take one task at a time.
One decision at a time.
One breath at a time.
Give yourself permission to slow down, pause, and do what you can today. You don’t have to be productive every moment, and you don’t have to have everything figured out.
Most importantly, practice self-compassion. Talk to yourself with the same kindness you would offer someone you love.
Remember—you are not failing just because you are overwhelmed. You are human, and sometimes, taking care of yourself is the most important task of all. ❤️
