Doctor, I’ve been advised to remove my uterus. Is hysterectomy really my only option?”

For some medical conditions, a hysterectomy (uterus removal surgery) may be necessary and the most appropriate treatment. But not every gynaecological condition automatically requires removal of the uterus.

Depending on the diagnosis, severity of symptoms, age, overall health, and future pregnancy plans, treatment options may include medications, hormonal therapy, minimally invasive procedures, or uterus-preserving treatments where medically appropriate.

If hysterectomy has been recommended, understanding why it is needed, what alternatives may be available, and the benefits and risks of each option is an important part of making an informed decision.

And when you’re uncertain about a major surgery, seeking a second medical opinion can help you better understand your diagnosis and treatment options.

There is no one-size-fits-all approach to women’s health. Know your diagnosis. Understand your options. Make an informed choice.

Can blocked fallopian tubes go unnoticed? Yes — and that’s why they can become a hidden fertility concern.

Your fallopian tubes play an essential role in natural conception, allowing the egg and s***m to meet. When one or both tubes are blocked, natural conception may become more difficult.

The challenging part is that blocked fallopian tubes often cause no obvious symptoms. You may have regular periods, no pain, and feel completely fine — yet a tubal blockage may only be discovered during a fertility evaluation.

Possible causes include pelvic infections, endometriosis, previous pelvic or abdominal surgery, and ge***al tuberculosis, among others.

If you’ve been trying to conceive for 12 months — or 6 months if you’re over 35 — without success, speak with a fertility specialist. Tests such as an HSG (hysterosalpingogram) may be recommended to assess whether the fallopian tubes are open.

A tubal blockage doesn’t mean your parenthood journey ends here. Depending on the cause, location and extent of the blockage, different treatment options may be considered. When appropriate, IVF can bypass the fallopian tubes by fertilising the egg outside the body before transferring an embryo into the uterus.

Some fertility concerns don’t come with warning signs. The right evaluation can help uncover what symptoms cannot.

One semen analysis may not tell the whole story. S***m parameters can naturally vary over time, so a single test may not always provide the complete picture of male fertility.

If you’re planning a pregnancy or facing fertility concerns, proper evaluation and medical guidance can help you understand your fertility health better.

Feeling fine during pregnancy? Your blood pressure could still be telling a different story.

Pregnancy-induced hypertension (PIH) is high blood pressure that develops during pregnancy, usually after 20 weeks. In some cases, it can progress to pre-eclampsia, which may affect both mother and baby if not identified and managed appropriately.

Some women may have no noticeable symptoms, while others may experience severe headaches, vision changes, swelling of the face or hands, upper abdominal pain, nausea, or shortness of breath.

That’s why regular antenatal check-ups and blood pressure monitoring are important, even when you feel completely well.

Risk can be higher with chronic high blood pressure, diabetes, multiple pregnancy, or a previous history of pre-eclampsia — but these conditions can also occur without known risk factors.

Feeling fine is reassuring, but it doesn’t replace prenatal check-ups. Seek medical advice promptly if you notice concerning symptoms.

Ectopic Pregnancy: Know the Signs, Act Early

An ectopic pregnancy occurs when a fertilized egg implants outside the uterus, most commonly in the fallopian tube. While it can be successfully diagnosed and treated when detected early, ignoring warning signs can lead to serious complications.

Watch out for one-sided abdominal pain, unusual vaginal bleeding, dizziness, fainting, or shoulder pain.

If you’re pregnant and experience unusual pain or bleeding, don’t wait—consult your doctor promptly. Early diagnosis can make a crucial difference.
