On 12th August 2026, Chetna and I had a truly delightful and nostalgic evening in Dubai, reconnecting with my dear school childhood friend Anjum Beg and our families over a wonderful dinner.

My other dear school childhood friend, Munir Khan, who retired as Additional Director General of Police, Jammu & Kashmir, could not be with us in Dubai. As he is scared of flying, he stayed back in Srinagar. We missed his presence dearly and remembered him with great affection throughout the evening.

Anjum Beg, who is Advisor to the Royal Family of Fujairah, is happily settled in Dubai. It was wonderful to meet him again and share beautiful memories of our school days.

Munir’s son Adnan and Anjum’s daughter Rimsha are happily married and well settled in Dubai, along with their son. Seeing the next generation happy and settled made the occasion even more special.

My dear brother-in-law, Mr. Anil Bhasin, who is also settled in Dubai, graciously hosted this dinner for all of us at Mimi Mei Fair Chinese Restaurant. His warmth and hospitality made the evening even more memorable.

We spent a beautiful evening filled with laughter, affection, old school memories and family conversations. Friendships formed during childhood are truly special—they remain close to the heart despite the passage of decades and the distances life creates.

A wonderful evening of friendship, family, nostalgia and happiness—truly a dinner to cherish and remember.

स्कूल के समय के मेरे एक और प्यारे दोस्त, मुनीर खान, जो जम्मू-कश्मीर पुलिस में एडिशनल डायरेक्टर जनरल के पद से रिटायर हुए हैं, दुबई में हमारे साथ नहीं आ सके। उन्हें हवाई यात्रा से डर लगता है, इसलिए वे श्रीनगर में ही रुक गए। हमने उनकी कमी बहुत महसूस की और पूरी शाम उन्हें बहुत प्यार से याद किया।

अंजुम बेग, जो फुजैराह के शाही परिवार के सलाहकार हैं, दुबई में खुशी-खुशी रह रहे हैं। उनसे दोबारा मिलकर और स्कूल के दिनों की खूबसूरत यादें साझा करके बहुत अच्छा लगा।

मुनीर के बेटे अदनान और अंजुम की बेटी रिमशा की शादी हो चुकी है और वे अपने बेटे के साथ दुबई में खुशी-खुशी रह रहे हैं। अगली पीढ़ी को खुश और अच्छी तरह से बसा हुआ देखकर यह मौका और भी खास हो गया।

मेरे प्यारे जीजाजी, श्री अनिल भसीन, जो खुद भी दुबई में रहते हैं, ने हम सभी के लिए 'मिमी मेई फेयर' चाइनीज रेस्टोरेंट में इस डिनर का शानदार आयोजन किया। उनके स्नेह और मेहमाननवाज़ी ने शाम को और भी यादगार बना दिया।

हमने हंसी-मज़ाक, प्यार, स्कूल की पुरानी यादों और परिवार की बातों के साथ एक खूबसूरत शाम बिताई। बचपन की दोस्ती सचमुच बहुत खास होती है—दशकों बीतने और ज़िंदगी में दूरियां आने के बावजूद ये दोस्ती दिल के बहुत करीब रहती है।

I was pleased to attend the Annual General Meeting of the Faridabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FCCI) held on 22nd February 2026. It was a particularly special occasion for me as the Founder President of FCCI, an institution close to my heart and one that has played an important role in promoting the interests of the business and industrial community of Faridabad.

The function was graced by Mr. Nirmal Minda as the Chief Guest. His presence added great value and distinction to the occasion.

I would also like to warmly congratulate Mr. H.K. Batra on his re-election as President of FCCI for another three-year term. I wish him and his team every success in taking the Chamber to greater heights.

It was indeed a pleasant, meaningful and memorable gathering, providing an excellent opportunity to reconnect with fellow members of the business and industrial community and to celebrate the continued growth and contribution of FCCI.

~ An Open Note to Shri Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition, Lok Sabha ~

Shri Rahul Gandhi Ji,

As the Leader of Opposition in the world’s largest democracy, you occupy a position that carries enormous responsibility. The Opposition has an important and legitimate role in a democracy—to question the government, expose genuine shortcomings, offer constructive alternatives and hold those in power accountable. But criticism must be accompanied by responsibility, facts, maturity and, above all, a long-term vision for the nation.

Unfortunately, much of your recent political discourse appears increasingly focused on creating controversy around one issue after another rather than presenting a coherent and credible roadmap for India’s future. Raising legitimate public concerns is the right of every Opposition leader; manufacturing a controversy on a daily basis, however, risks reducing serious politics to perpetual confrontation.

India is a young nation with enormous aspirations. Our youth need opportunities, education, employment, entrepreneurship, innovation, skills and a sense of confidence about their future. They do not need to be repeatedly drawn into political confrontation or encouraged to view every national issue through a divisive political lens. The same applies to every section of society—OBCs, SCs, STs, minorities, women, farmers, workers, entrepreneurs and the middle class. These communities deserve empowerment and opportunity, not to be treated merely as political vote banks.

I would also like to make my own position absolutely clear. I am a political person in the sense that I take an active interest in the affairs, progress and future of my country, but I am not associated or affiliated with any political party. I come from a background of sports and business, and my concerns have always been centred on the growth, development and global standing of India. I appreciate the manner in which the present government is pursuing the vision of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, promoting Nari Shakti and seeking to take every section of society along on the journey of national development. Initiatives such as Make in India and Khelo India, including the emphasis on fitness and a healthier, more active nation, are steps that I believe deserve recognition. My views, therefore, should not be seen through a partisan political lens; they arise from my commitment to India, its development, its youth and its future.

During my tenure as President of the International Hockey Federation (FIH), Member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), President of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), and President of the Commonwealth Games Association of India, I had the opportunity to travel extensively across the world and interact with leaders, institutions and sporting communities in many countries. From this experience, I have personally witnessed a significant change in the way India and Indians are perceived internationally. Over the last decade, the respect, confidence and recognition accorded to India have increased substantially in the eyes of countries and international organisations that have been dealing with India for many years. I have seen this transformation firsthand—not merely through official interactions, but through the growing stature, confidence and influence of India on the global stage. This progress is something every Indian should be proud of, and I believe it is our collective responsibility to protect, strengthen and further advance India’s standing in the world.

My concern, therefore, is not about defending one political party or attacking another. My concern is about India. Having travelled extensively and represented India at the highest levels of international sport, I have seen what national confidence, stability and global respect can achieve. India today has an opportunity to emerge as one of the leading powers of the 21st century. Political leaders across the spectrum should contribute to that journey rather than constantly seeking to divide society or diminish public confidence in the country’s institutions.

A strong Opposition is essential to a strong democracy. But a strong Opposition should challenge the government where it is wrong, acknowledge where it is right, propose better alternatives and demonstrate that it is capable of providing responsible leadership when the opportunity arises. The people of India deserve politics that rises above perpetual confrontation and gives them a positive vision for the next decade and beyond.

Shri Rahul Gandhi, criticism is your democratic right, but responsibility is your constitutional and moral duty. India needs an Opposition that questions without weakening, criticises without misleading, and challenges without dividing. The politics of tomorrow must be about building a stronger, more prosperous, more confident and more united India—not about manufacturing controversies every day. I sincerely hope that you will use the enormous responsibility entrusted to you by the people of India to contribute constructively to the nation’s progress and to offer the country a clear, credible and long-term vision for its future.

“The Best World Cup Ever” — But Who Is Actually Running It?

FIH President Mr. Tayyab Ikram has publicly declared that the FIH Hockey World Cup Belgium & Netherlands 2026 is going to be “the best World Cup ever”, with the promise of an “unforgettable event.”

The tournament has now provided us with a rather interesting opportunity to test that claim.

On 21 August 2026, FIH itself announced that the Men’s Pool H match between Ireland and Malaysia would start 15 minutes late because of an “inadvertent transport delay.” The scheduled start was 14:00 CEST, but the match was pushed back to 14:15 CEST.

This is not an allegation made by a critic or a rival organisation. This is FIH’s own official announcement.

In the same interview, the President also spoke about how extraordinarily busy he is, with one meeting following another and hardly any time to spare. Perhaps, then, we have discovered the real reason for the transport delay: with so many presidential meetings taking place, maybe the transport system was simply too busy keeping up with the President to get the players to their match on time! Of course, this is said sarcastically. But it does highlight an important point: the President’s calendar and meetings are irrelevant to the players if the basic responsibility of getting teams to their matches on time is not being fulfilled. The World Cup is for the athletes — not for the President’s meeting schedule.

So one has to ask:

Is this what is being called “the best World Cup ever”?

A 15-minute delay is not, by itself, a disaster. Transport problems can happen at major sporting events. But when the President of the world governing body himself sets the standard by describing the tournament as “the best World Cup ever,” even basic organisational failures naturally deserve scrutiny.

And this raises a much larger question about the manner in which the FIH is being managed.

There are legitimate concerns about the extent to which decision-making and the organisation of major FIH activities have become centralised around the President and people considered close to his leadership. Mr. Ikram appears to have surrounded himself with people whom he trusts and has brought into important positions and responsibilities. If the President exercises such a high degree of influence over the running of the organisation and its events, then he must also accept responsibility when things go wrong.

There is nothing wrong with appointing people one trusts. But international hockey is a global sport, and the administration of its premier tournament must be based on professionalism, competence, transparency and merit — not personal proximity to the President.

If people appointed or closely associated with the leadership are entrusted with important responsibilities, then the President cannot simply take credit for successes while describing failures as “inadvertent.” With authority comes accountability.

And today’s incident makes the irony particularly difficult to ignore.

A World Cup team arriving late because of a transport problem is hardly consistent with the image of a tournament being promoted as “the best World Cup ever.”

Perhaps the new definition of the best World Cup is:

World-class players.
World-class hockey.
World-class venues.
And, hopefully, world-class transport — eventually.

Belgium and the Netherlands are countries renowned for their infrastructure, organisation and hockey culture. The World Cup therefore deserves an organisational standard worthy of the countries hosting it and the players representing their nations.

Of course, nobody should make a mountain out of a 15-minute delay.

But equally, nobody should make a mountain out of a slogan.

If you call something “the best World Cup ever,” you have to deliver the best — not merely declare it to be the best.

The hockey world will ultimately judge this World Cup not by presidential statements, promotional material or press releases, but by the actual experience of the players, teams, officials, spectators and hockey fans.

“The best World Cup ever?”

The slogan has arrived.
The organisation, apparently, is still waiting for the bus.

Ultimately, the credibility of the FIH leadership will not be measured by grand declarations that a tournament is going to be “the best World Cup ever,” but by the professionalism, transparency, accountability and quality of ex*****on that the hockey world actually witnesses. A 15-minute transport delay may be a small incident, but it becomes symbolic when it occurs at a tournament that has been promoted in such glowing terms. The President who claims credit for making an event the best must also accept responsibility for every avoidable failure in its organisation. Hockey deserves better than slogans; it deserves competent, independent and professional administration.

~ A Question of Dignity and National Pride ~

• A video from the Hockey World Cup in the Netherlands on 18 August 2026 raises a deeply disturbing question about dignity, national pride and the conduct expected from senior Indian hockey officials.

• Bholanath Singh, Secretary General of Hockey India, is seen celebrating his birthday in the presence of Tayyab Ikram, Pakistani ISI agent and who unfortunately also is President of the International Hockey Federation (FIH). The visuals further appear to show Mr. Bholanath Singh touching Mr. Ikram’s feet. What a shame….

• On the other side of Bholanath Singh in Zahid - who claims he has quit Pakistan army but who also in reality is a ISI agent working with Tayyab to control Asian Hockey.

• What makes this particularly significant is that Hockey India itself has published a Facebook post on 1 January celebrating Bholanath Singh’s birthday. That public post raises an obvious question: if Hockey India officially celebrates his birthday on 1 January, why was another birthday celebration held for him on 18 August in the Netherlands?

• The issue is therefore not merely about a birthday celebration. It is about the contradiction between Hockey India’s own public record and the events shown in the 18 August video, as well as the conduct of a senior office-bearer of Indian hockey while attending an international hockey event.

• The video also appears to show Bholanath Singh touching the feet of the FIH President, Tayyab Ikram. Such conduct by the Secretary General of Hockey India, while representing Indian hockey at an international event, inevitably raises questions about dignity, institutional propriety and the image of Indian hockey.

~ The questions that deserve a clear answer are:

A) Why did Hockey India publicly celebrate Bholanath Singh’s birthday on 1 January? Why was a further birthday celebration held on 18 August in the Netherlands? What exactly was being celebrated on 18 August? And why does the video appear to show the Secretary General of Hockey India touching the feet of the FIH President?

😎 These questions are legitimate and deserve a transparent explanation from Hockey India.

C) Indian hockey is a proud institution with a glorious history. Its office-bearers must conduct themselves in a manner that protects the dignity, self-respect and reputation of Indian hockey which represents the sports loving Indians and Indian hockey fans at all times.

D) India for the first time in 28 years does not have any umpire or Offical officiating in hockey World Cup, Indian women team were forced to a draw against china by awarding goal on a wrongfully taken penalty stroke by china and Hockey India secretary general with limited or no knowledge of hockey and who actually was a wrestler and not a hockey athlete, instead of raising these important issues, here is seen touching the feet of a PAKISTANI ISI agent who unfortunately happens to be President of FIH. Once again what a shame. WHY DOES HOCKEY INDIA HAVE TO SEND SUCH PEOPLE WHO ARE TOUCHING FEET OF A PAKISTANI ???

E) This is not a question of personalities; it is a question of the dignity, self-respect and credibility of Indian hockey. The President, Secretary General and Executive Board of Hockey India owe the hockey fraternity, hockey fans, hockey athletes and officials, and all sports-loving people of India a clear, transparent and convincing explanation.

• 18 अगस्त 2026 को नीदरलैंड में हुए हॉकी वर्ल्ड कप का एक वीडियो सम्मान, राष्ट्रीय गौरव और भारतीय हॉकी के सीनियर अधिकारियों से अपेक्षित व्यवहार के बारे में एक बहुत परेशान करने वाला सवाल उठाता है।

• हॉकी इंडिया के सेक्रेटरी जनरल भोलानाथ सिंह को तैयब इकराम की मौजूदगी में अपना जन्मदिन मनाते हुए देखा जा सकता है; तैयब इकराम पाकिस्तानी ISI एजेंट हैं और दुर्भाग्य से इंटरनेशनल हॉकी फेडरेशन (FIH) के प्रेसिडेंट भी हैं। वीडियो में भोलानाथ सिंह, इकराम के पैर छूते हुए भी दिखाई दे रहे हैं। कितनी शर्म की बात है...

• भोलानाथ सिंह के दूसरी तरफ जाहिद हैं - जिनका दावा है कि उन्होंने पाकिस्तान आर्मी छोड़ दी है, लेकिन असल में वे भी एक ISI एजेंट हैं जो एशियाई हॉकी को कंट्रोल करने के लिए तैयब के साथ काम कर रहे हैं।

• खास बात यह है कि हॉकी इंडिया ने खुद 1 जनवरी को भोलानाथ सिंह का जन्मदिन मनाते हुए एक फेसबुक पोस्ट किया था। उस पब्लिक पोस्ट से एक सीधा सवाल उठता है: अगर हॉकी इंडिया आधिकारिक तौर पर उनका जन्मदिन 1 जनवरी को मनाता है, तो 18 अगस्त को नीदरलैंड में उनके लिए एक और जन्मदिन का जश्न क्यों मनाया गया?

• इसलिए, यह मामला सिर्फ जन्मदिन मनाने का नहीं है। यह हॉकी इंडिया के अपने पब्लिक रिकॉर्ड और 18 अगस्त के वीडियो में दिखाई गई घटनाओं के बीच विरोधाभास का मामला है, साथ ही एक इंटरनेशनल हॉकी इवेंट में भारतीय हॉकी के एक सीनियर पदाधिकारी के व्यवहार का भी मामला है।

• वीडियो में भोलानाथ सिंह FIH प्रेसिडेंट तैयब इकराम के पैर छूते हुए भी दिखाई दे रहे हैं। इंटरनेशनल इवेंट में भारतीय हॉकी का प्रतिनिधित्व करते हुए हॉकी इंडिया के सेक्रेटरी जनरल का ऐसा व्यवहार निश्चित रूप से सम्मान, संस्थागत मर्यादा और भारतीय हॉकी की छवि पर सवाल उठाता है।

~ वे सवाल जिनके स्पष्ट जवाब मिलने चाहिए:

A) हॉकी इंडिया ने 1 जनवरी को भोलानाथ सिंह का जन्मदिन सार्वजनिक रूप से क्यों मनाया? 18 अगस्त को नीदरलैंड में एक और जन्मदिन का जश्न क्यों मनाया गया? 18 अगस्त को असल में क्या मनाया जा रहा था? और वीडियो में हॉकी इंडिया के सेक्रेटरी जनरल FIH प्रेसिडेंट के पैर छूते हुए क्यों दिखाई दे रहे हैं?

😎 ये सवाल जायज़ हैं और हॉकी इंडिया से इनके लिए पारदर्शी स्पष्टीकरण की उम्मीद की जाती है।

C) भारतीय हॉकी एक गौरवशाली इतिहास वाली संस्था है जिस पर हमें गर्व है। इसके पदाधिकारियों को इस तरह से व्यवहार करना चाहिए जिससे भारतीय हॉकी की गरिमा, आत्म-सम्मान और प्रतिष्ठा बनी रहे, क्योंकि यह हर समय खेल-प्रेमी भारतीयों और भारतीय हॉकी प्रशंसकों का प्रतिनिधित्व करती है।

D) 28 साल में पहली बार हॉकी वर्ल्ड कप में भारत का कोई अंपायर या अधिकारी शामिल नहीं है। चीन को गलत तरीके से पेनल्टी स्ट्रोक देकर गोल दिए जाने के कारण भारतीय महिला टीम का मैच चीन के साथ ड्रॉ पर खत्म हुआ। वहीं, हॉकी इंडिया के सेक्रेटरी जनरल - जिन्हें हॉकी की बहुत कम या कोई जानकारी नहीं है और जो असल में हॉकी खिलाड़ी नहीं बल्कि एक रेसलर थे - इन ज़रूरी मुद्दों को उठाने के बजाय एक पाकिस्तानी ISI एजेंट के पैर छूते हुए दिखे, जो बदकिस्मती से FIH के प्रेसिडेंट भी हैं। सच में, यह बहुत शर्मनाक है। हॉकी इंडिया ऐसे लोगों को क्यों भेजता है जो पाकिस्तानी के पैर छूते हैं???

E) यह किसी व्यक्ति विशेष का मामला नहीं है; यह भारतीय हॉकी की गरिमा, आत्म-सम्मान और विश्वसनीयता का सवाल है। हॉकी इंडिया के अध्यक्ष, महासचिव और कार्यकारी बोर्ड का यह दायित्व है कि वे हॉकी जगत, हॉकी प्रशंसकों, हॉकी खिलाड़ियों और अधिकारियों तथा भारत के सभी खेल-प्रेमी लोगों को एक स्पष्ट, पारदर्शी और संतोषजनक स्पष्टीकरण दें।
