*District Admin Bandipora Conducts IEC Awareness Programmes under Nasha Mukht Jammu Kashmir Abhiyan across Panchayats*

Bandipora, February 23: Continuing its intensified campaign under the Nasha Mukht Jammu Kashmir Abhiyan, the District Administration Bandipora today conducted a series of IEC (Information, Education and Communication) awareness programmes across multiple Panchayat Halqas of the district.

The programmes were organized in Panchayats including Ajas-D (Hajin), Markundal (Naidkhai), Nowgam-B (Nowgam), Naninara (Sumbal), Ashatngoo Ghat (Aloosa), C.A. Khan (Arin), Brar-Gundi Dachina (Bandipora), Bonakoot-A (Bonakoot), and Gund Khalail (Ganastan). The events were coordinated by the respective Panchayat Secretaries in their designated Panchayat Halqas.

A multi-departmental team comprising officials from Health, Police, Education, Social Welfare (DDAC), Youth Services & Sports, JKNRLM, and Excise & Taxation departments participated in the programmes.

During the sessions, Resource persons from these departments delivered awareness lectures and interacted with participants to sensitize them about the growing menace of substance abuse.

A similar anti-drug awareness programme was held at Bus Adda Nusso by the Assistant Regional Transport Office (ARTO) Bandipora, wherein drivers, conductors and commuters were sensitized about the ill effects of drug abuse and the legal consequences associated with the transportation and consumption of narcotic substances.

The programmes witnessed active participation from local residents, youth, and members of the community, who engaged in meaningful discussions and reiterated their commitment to making their respective Panchayats drug-free under the ongoing Nasha Mukht JK Abhiyan.

Bandipora 25 /02/2026: Enforcement Drive by ARTO Bandipora on Bandipora–Srinagar Road
An enforcement drive was conducted by the team of ARTO Office Bandipora on the busy Bandipora–Srinagar Road to ensure strict compliance with traffic rules and to enhance road safety.
During the drive, various vehicles including two-wheelers, private cars, commercial vehicles, buses, and other transport vehicles were thoroughly checked. The team focused on verifying driving licences, registration certificates, insurance documents, pollution under control (PUC) certificates, overloading, and use of safety gear such as helmets and seat belts.
Special attention was given to two-wheeler riders for mandatory helmet use and to four-wheeler drivers for seat belt compliance. Vehicles found violating traffic norms were challaned as per provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act. Drivers and commuters were also counseled about safe driving practices and the importance of adhering to traffic regulations.
The enforcement drive aimed to reduce accidents, promote responsible driving behavior, and create awareness among the general public about road safety. ARTO Bandipora reiterated its commitment to continue such drives in the future to ensure safer roads for all road users.

Bandipora 07-02-2026:ARTO Bandipora Intensifies Traffic Enforcement to Curb Violations.
The Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) Bandipora, under the directions of the Transport Commissioner J&K, conducted a comprehensive traffic enforcement drive across the district. The drive aimed to strengthen road safety measures and curb traffic violations.Over 90 vehicles were inspected during the drive.20 compoundable challans were issued, amounting to ₹40,000 in fines.Riding two-wheelers without helmets, driving four-wheelers without seat belts, operating vehicles without functional speed-limiting devices, wrong or unauthorized parking, and driving without valid motor insurance. ARTO Bandipora emphasized that such targeted enforcement drives will continue to deter habitual violators, create visible deterrence on roads, and reinforce compliance with traffic rules.

ARTO Bandipora Conducts Enforcement Drive Against Unauthorised High-Intensity LED Lights

Bandipora, 29 Jan 2026:
On the directions of the worthy Transport Commissioner, the team of the Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) Bandipora conducted a special enforcement drive against the use of unauthorised high-intensity LED lights in the district.

During the drive, several vehicles were checked and found violating the Motor Vehicles Act by using high-intensity LED lights, which pose a serious risk to road safety by causing glare and discomfort to other road users. The enforcement team took strict action against the violators, including the issuance of challans and instructions for immediate removal of such lights.

Officials emphasized that the use of unauthorised LED lights is illegal and can lead to accidents, especially during night hours. Vehicle owners were advised to adhere strictly to prescribed vehicle safety norms and avoid any unauthorised modifications.

The ARTO Bandipora reiterated that such enforcement drives will continue in the future to ensure road safety and compliance with traffic regulations across the district.

ARTO Bandipora Conducts Road Safety Awareness Programme Under National Road Safety Month 2026

Bandipora, January 07: As part of the ongoing observance of National Road Safety Month 2026, the Office of the Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO), Bandipora today organized a Road Safety Awareness Programme aimed at promoting safe driving practices and sensitizing commercial drivers about strict adherence to traffic rules.

A large number of commercial vehicle drivers participated in the programme, during which they were briefed on the importance of following traffic signs, speed regulations, use of safety devices, and overall responsible driving behaviour as mandated under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. ARTO Mohommad Mukhtar Sofi stressed that commercial drivers bear a greater responsibility towards public safety due to their frequent road usage and passenger transport duties.

The resource persons also highlighted the grave consequences of drug abuse, particularly its adverse impact on driving skills, reaction time, judgment, and overall road safety. Drivers were cautioned that operating vehicles under the influence of drugs or intoxicants endangers their own lives as well as those of passengers and other road users.

The ARTO Bandipora issued a clear warning that any commercial driver found indulging in drug abuse or driving under the influence would face strict legal action, including cancellation or disqualification of driving licences as per the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act. It was reiterated that a zero-tolerance policy would be adopted against such violations.

The programme concluded with an appeal to all drivers to uphold traffic rules, refrain from substance abuse, and act as responsible road users. Participants appreciated the initiative, terming it effective in reinforcing awareness about road safety and disciplined driving practices.
