Today was a day to remember and highlight of the last few years at Silverback. Not only was it a massive grading with some amazing and outstanding achievements, we had the pleaseure of bringing all the kids to the IOAC | Camping & Outdoor Activities Wexford and had a brilliant afternoon. I hope all of the kids enjoyed it as much as the coaches did and thanks to all the parents for trusting us with your precious people. Silverback is a very special place and today proved that in abundance.

Some days, medals tell part of the story.

This Saturday in Kilkenny, our kids represented Silverback Jiu Jitsu Academy with a level of maturity, composure and heart that made every coach and parent incredibly proud. Finishing 2nd Overall Team was an amazing achievement, but it wasn’t the result that meant the most to us.

What stood out was the way they carried themselves.

They showed courage when the pressure was on. They stayed calm in difficult positions. They displayed technical skill that reflected countless hours on the mats. They won with humility, lost with dignity, and supported every teammate from the first match to the last.

The respect they showed their opponents, referees, coaches and fellow competitors is exactly what we strive to build at Silverback. Jiu Jitsu is about far more than medals—it’s about developing resilient, respectful and confident young people.

To every child who stepped onto those mats… thank you.

To all of our parents, thank you for your constant encouragement and unwavering support. None of this happens without you.

Walking into a new gym can feel intimidating, especially when you’ve never trained before. That’s exactly why we’re starting a brand new Beginners Class at Silverback Jiu Jitsu.

This class is built specifically for complete beginners. No experience needed. No pressure to “keep up.” Just a group of people all starting together, learning the basics step by step in a welcoming environment.

Whether you want to:

• build confidence
• learn self defence
• meet good people
• or simply try something new

this is the perfect place to start.

For most of these young athletes, it was their first time stepping onto the competition mats, and they showed incredible heart, courage, and determination throughout the day. As always, there were wins and losses, but more importantly, there was a huge amount of learning and experience gained.

We’re extremely proud of how each of them carried themselves and represented the team. Days like this are a big part of their development, both on and off the mats.

A big thank you to the team at Myalo Martial Arts for hosting such a well-organised and welcoming event. It’s an excellent competition for kids starting their journey, and we’re already looking forward to heading back on June 14th.
