Azzuri 2A Division Result: Dungarvan Celtic 3-0 Portlaw

We took on Portlaw yesterday afternoon in Lawnfield Park. After our recent cup defeat against the same opponents, the lads were determined to come away with a different outcome.

Despite edging the first half, Portlaw never really tested the returning Houcine, in goal. 0-0 HT.

On the 55th minute, Shane played the ball to Ben- who finished brilliantly to give us the lead.

5 minutes later, Ben doubled that lead- after his deflected effort made its way past the Portlaw keeper. 2-0.

We sat in for long spells after this- whilst always remaining a threat on the break. The lads defended brilliantly throughout the game.

In the 92nd minute, we broke forward. Kyle M found Jack out wide- who remained cool and slotted the ball into the side netting. FT 3-0.

A hard-earned and well deserved three points for the lads. No fixtures released for our 2A side at the time of writing.

Ferrybank 3-1 Dungarvan Celtic

Our 3B side travelled to a very rainy Ferrybank this evening for a league fixture.

Both teams created good chances throughout, but it was Ferrybank who scored first. They doubled their lead with an unsaveable free kick into the top right corner after half an hour. Celtic regrouped well but were denied by a goalkeeper in fine form. 2-0 HT.

Celtic halved the deficit when Owen headed in after Tyrone's cross - his first goal for the club. The comeback was put to bed when Ferrybank scored another free kick late on, and took all three points in a hard fought match. 3-1 FT.

Jimmy O’Neill Second Division Cup QF Result: Dungarvan Celtic 1-2 Portlaw

We bowed out of the cup on Monday evening, after a narrow defeat to Portlaw.

An even first half ended 0-0. The best of the chances fell to Kyle. After a great run through the Portlaw defence- he lashed the ball off the post. 0-0 HT

We began the second half well. On the 49th minute- Mark finished well, assisted by Kyle.
Portlaw responded immediately. We failed to clear the ball- and the Portlaw striker was on hand to level up the game. 1-1.

Portlaw had their best spell of the game after this. On the 72nd minute, they beat the offside trap and finished well to put them ahead. 1-2.

For the next 20minutes, the lads had plenty of the ball but couldn’t find the decisive equaliser. Portlaw defended well and limited us to few chances. FT 1-2

A much improved performance wasn’t enough to see us through to the next round.

With the cup taking centre stage over the next couple of weeks- our next league fixtures are uncertain.

Our 3B side travelled to Piltown on Saturday to take on Piltown in the 3rd Division Cup, the first game back after the summer break.

After a promising start, Piltown capitalised on a Celtic corner with a quick counter to put themselves 1 up. Piltown began to take control after the opener, and were clinical to find themselves 3-0 up at half time. They added to their tally in the second half to cap off a comfortable win.

Best of luck to Piltown as they progress to the next round of the cup.

Jimmy O’Neill Division 2 Cup Result: Dungarvan Celtic 3-2 Abbeyside.

We took on Abbeyside in the opening round of the cup yesterday evening, in what was always going to be a tight game.

After a very poor first half from our lads, we went in at the break lucky to only be one goal down. Abbeyside dominated the first half- and should have been 2 or 3 up at half way mark. HT 0-1

We regrouped at half time, and with a change of shape- we made it a more even second half. Ben and Kyle were a threat throughout the second 45 minutes.

On the 50th minute, Ben finished well after Tom played him in. 1-1. On the 75th minute, we gifted Abbeyside an opportunity- their striker didn’t hesitate and finished clinically to give Abbeyside the lead once more. 1-2

Our lads came on strong in the final 10 minutes of the game. Some lovely football finished with Kyle splitting the Abbeyside defence, and Jamie Healy slotting the ball into the bottom corner, at the far post. 2-2

Just as we entered the final moments of the 90 minutes-we were awarded a penalty, after Kyle was hauled down by the keeper. Ben stepped up and buried the ball into the bottom corner. 3-2. We saw out the additional 8 minutes of extra time with ease. FT

A smash and grab victory that sees us into the quarter final of the Cup. We face Portlaw next Monday, August 17th.
