The curtain came down on our U-16 Girls club football this evening with the semi final in Division 3 of the Co. League against a talented Killarney Legion team. Unfortunately we came out the wrong side of a fantastic game of football with the girls giving their all right to the end. Legion got off to a great start and led by 2-4 to 0-2 after 10 minutes. However two goals just before half time bought us right back in to the game and we trailed by only 3 points at half time. Stacks 2-3 Legion 2-6. We started well in the second half and got the margin back to one point. However Legion got a foothold in the game again and managed to stay ahead right to the end. The final score was Stacks 3-8 Legion 3-10. The girls gave it their all and can be extremely proud of their performance. They have put in a huge effort since we started training way back in March on the greenway. Austin Stacks U14 girls got their Terrys Butchers Shop North Kerry Ladies Football Div 1 League campaign off to a winning start this evening with a strong team performance away to neighbours Churchill.

Captained on the night by Ria Hogan Byrne, the Stacks girls started brightly. Both sides showed plenty of commitment and determination throughout the opening half. Scores proved difficult to come by in the early stages, but Austin Stacks went into the break with a lead.
Half-time: Churchill 0-2, Austin Stacks 1-4.

The Stacks girls raised their game further after the restart, playing some excellent team football. Their positive approach was rewarded with a number of well-taken scores as they stretched their advantage.

To their credit, Churchill enjoyed a purple patch during the second half and put the Stacks defence under pressure. However, the Austin Stacks girls showed great composure and determination when it mattered most. They settled any nerves, regained control of the game, and finished strongly to secure a hard-earned victory.

Full-time: Churchill 2-4, Austin Stacks 4-10
