On behalf of Michael, we regret to inform all of our customers of some devastating news received this week.

We have been told by Tipperary County Council that Mike's Sports centre must cease all trading and close the sports centre due to a complaint received by a disgruntled neighbour.

As many of you know, throughout the years Roscrea as a town has been neglected with such facilities for our youth. The sports centre was established with this in mind, to provide a safe and comfortable place of leisure for the people of Roscrea to avail of.

We are devastated as to how this could bother any individual so much that they would feel the need to deprive a 19 year old lad of his livelihood. What now for the youth of Roscrea? Who'd have thought a simple game of snooker or a round of golf could become such a problem.

To our 68 members who have signed up for our annual membership, we are deeply sorry for this inconvenience which is beyond our control. We will provide a full reimbursement to each of you next week.

As a family, we will be there for Michael. To aid him in this recovery both financially and on a personal level. His time and money invested in this project for the town of Roscrea will not go unknown and we hope he can bounce back soon.

Mike’s Sports Centre A new facility has recently opened up on Abbey Street next door to Roscrea’s Abbey Hall. Mike’s Sports Centre now offer people who share an interest in both the game of snooker and golf an opportunity to practise the sport they love.Membership is being offered out on a limited basis with the closing date for new members being Oct 1st 2022. Applicants can apply for membership at the club reception or by telephone. The intention is to create a proper members club in the town and strict rules will apply, meaning that members only, players only, no hanging around. The benefits of club membership will include reduced rates on table play of 25% during the life of their annual membership, members will receive a membership card. There is also an additional benefit to club members in that there are two tables located at the former Central Lounge in Roscrea where at present a new members private bar is in the process of opening up. The new “Scoby’s Snug” will feature a private members only bar and access to two full sized snooker tables, members nights will be arranged with junior members and senior club members having separate nights available to them. Members will also have access to the facility outside of the regular opening hours, for example, the facility currently opens from 5pm till 10pm Mon- Sun, club members who wish to play during the morning or afternoon hours will be granted access to the facility.The indoor golf driving and practice range is operated on the state of the art “Sky Track” system, used by the golf professionals themselves. The specialized system allows players to not only practise their driving and putting skills, but also to play hundreds of world class golf courses at the push of a button. As with the snooker, mikes sports centre have decided to offer a membership system with reduced rates for play to card holding club members. With the winter months approaching, players will be able to develop their skills without having to brave the inclement weather. Once again, club members will have access to the facility outside of normal opening hours if they wish to practise.If you are a parent whose child enjoys either golf or snooker, an annual membership to Mikes Sports Centre would make the ideal gift. Membership for snooker costs €120 per annum and comes with a range of benefits, golf membership costs just €145 per annum and once again offers a wide range of benefits to members.Mike’s Sports Centre are located on Abbey street, Roscrea Co. Tipperary, opening hours are from 5pm-10pm Mon-Sun with full size snooker tables and Skytrak golf available for hire. Private parties are welcome.
