This weekends competitions are the final competitions in the Golfer of the Year.
The Gents play in the Club Championship and the Ladies play for the Morrin Cup.

The Ladies were presented with Morrin Perpetual Cup in 1936 by Fr. Tom Morrin, C.C. Fr. Morrin was keen member following his appointment to Swinford as Curate in 1925. In 1929, he was one of the guarantors of a £100 loan from the bank to develop a new pavilion and redesign the course.
Away from golf, he was also one of the first officers of Swinford Boxing Club that formed in 1932.

Unfortunately, the Connaught Shield team lost out to Tubbercurry last night in the last 8.

That brings an end to our interclub season this year.
Thank you to all our members who gave up their time to represent the club in all the various competitions. The season won't be long coming around again and we will start fresh all over again.

This week, the Ladies play for the Aine McDonald Memorial Trophy and the Gents play for the Dick Crowley Cup.

The Aine McDonald Trophy was donated in memory of former club member, Aine McDonald and was first played for in 2016.

First played for in 2004 and won by Declan Loftus, a junior member at the time, the Dick Crowley Cup was presented by Paddy Cunney to the club in memory of Dick after his death. Dick returned from England when he retired and lived in Carramore, Killasser. He became a member of the club and played here for many years and was a great character around the club.

The Ormsby Cup will reside in Meelick for the next 12 months following the final, played last weekend. It took a birdie on the 19th to separate the two in a well contested final.

The final draw took place last Saturday afternoon. A massive thank you to everyone who made it happen and in particular Donal Benson and Ronan Monaghan for all the work they’ve put in over the last few months.
A huge amount of work goes on behind the scenes.

***** ADVANCED WARNING OF TEMPORARY COURSE CLOSURE*****

Next Saturday 5th of September, the Ireland West 3/4 Marathon, 10k & 5k will take place in Swinford. A fantastic event organised by Swinford AC. A large crowd is expected and as the Start/Finish line is located just outside the Golf Club, the course will be closed until 2pm on the day.
We wish the Athletics Club/organisers all the very best. This is a wonderful event for the local community.
Finally, good luck to all taking part, especially our own members.
