CAPTAIN FANTASTIC MAIR AND WALSH HEROICS INSPIRE SUNCROFT

Suncroft made the short trip to Rathbride Road to take on Kildare Town in the Division 3 Cup semi-final, going into the tie as underdogs for the occasion.

Suncroft started strongly, with the first chance falling to Adam Sweeney. He struck well, but the Kildare keeper was equal to it to keep the game scoreless.

Just five minutes in, Kildare were handed a golden opportunity to take the lead when their striker was brought down inside the box and the referee pointed to the spot.

Up stepped the Kildare man, but Dean Walsh stood tall. Walsh dived to his left and, with a brilliant last-second movement of his feet, kept the penalty out to deny Kildare the opener.

Both sides continued to battle for the breakthrough before Adam Sweeney found space and produced a brilliant looping effort that sailed up and over the Kildare keeper to put Suncroft 1-0 ahead.

Ten minutes later, Walsh was called into action again and produced another brilliant save low to his right. Unfortunately for Suncroft, the ball took a deflection on its way away from goal and fell kindly to the Kildare striker, who finished into the empty net.

HALF-TIME: Kildare Town 1-1 Suncroft

Both teams started brightly after the break, with the two keepers doing everything they could to keep their sides in the contest.

The best chance of the half fell to the returning Stevie Dillon, who rose to meet the ball with his head, only to see his effort crash against the crossbar.

Neither side could find the winner before the final whistle.

FULL-TIME: Kildare Town 1-1 Suncroft — Extra Time

Suncroft began to take control in extra time, pumping cross after cross into the Kildare box, but the home keeper continued to stand firm.

Chances came for Shane Dillon and Jack Hanlon, but Suncroft couldn’t find the breakthrough.

After 120 minutes of battle, there was still nothing separating the sides.

PENALTIES.

Adam Boland was introduced late in extra time specifically for the shootout and stepped forward to take Suncroft’s first. With his very first touch of the ball, Boland calmly found the net to get Suncroft up and running.

Kildare’s second penalty was fired over the bar, opening the door for Suncroft.

Captain Jay Mair stepped forward next and made no mistake, slotting home Suncroft’s second penalty.

Up stepped Eoin Fisher for the third, and he coolly placed a perfectly weighted strike into the corner.

Stewart Hanley took Suncroft’s fourth and was desperately unlucky not to score, with the Kildare keeper guessing correctly and making the save to put the hosts right back in contention.

Then, once again, Dean Walsh came up huge.

Walsh produced a superb save down to his right to hand Suncroft the advantage once more.

One penalty stood between Suncroft and a place in the Division 3 Cup final.

Shane Dillon stepped forward.

Rathbride Road fell silent as everyone waited for the strike.

BANG.

Dillon buried his penalty into the corner.

SUNCROFT ARE INTO THE FINAL! 💚

A huge performance from the Croft, who went into the semi-final as underdogs and came away with their place booked in the Division 3 Cup final.

Best for Suncroft: Eoin Fisher, Adam Sweeney, Chris Stynes and Nathan O’Rourke.

There was simply no separating two players for the individual award, so Men of the Match goes jointly to Captain Jay Mair and Dean Walsh for their defensive heroics throughout the game and their massive contributions when it mattered most in the shootout.

🟢⚪ KDFL U20 PREMIER DIVISION
Kilcullen AFC 7–0 Suncroft AFC
A very tough afternoon for our U20s away to Kilcullen, with the home side eventually running out convincing 7–0 winners.
Suncroft travelled with the bare 11 players, and huge credit must go to Dean Barnby, Adam Carroll and Daniel Mahon, who all stepped up to make up the numbers despite already playing an U17 game earlier this morning.
The lads battled hard throughout the opening half and went into the break 2–0 behind. With no substitutes available and tired legs beginning to show, the second half became increasingly difficult and Kilcullen took full advantage, adding five further goals.
Despite the scoreline, there were positives in the performance. Eoin Deans was Suncroft's standout performer, continuing his excellent form. Kian Keogh worked tirelessly up front, while the midfield kept battling right to the end.
A special mention also for Dean Barnby, who produced a very good performance at right back despite already having a full game in his legs from the morning.
It was a difficult day, but there were no complaints from the 11 lads who represented the club and kept going until the final whistle.
With a number of players due back from next week, the focus now turns to regrouping, getting bodies back into the squad and looking to kick-start our season again.
Sometimes you take the difficult days, learn from them and move on together.

Our under 9's making memories in Tallaght Stadium tonight and what a game to go to. Also got a chance for a kick around in the pitch, fair play to Kelvin Mcnally for arranging a great night for them all 🇳🇬👏

Suncroft AFC U20s 1–3 Newbridge Town U20s

Suncroft U20s suffered their first defeat of the season, going down 3–1 to Newbridge Town in a game where the final scoreline perhaps didn't tell the full story.
Newbridge took the lead to make it 1–0 before Suncroft's task was made considerably harder when they were reduced to 10 men following a sending off.
Despite being a man down, Suncroft responded brilliantly and got themselves back on level terms. Adam Carroll produced a lovely through ball to release Seamus Murphy, who kept his composure and finished superbly into the bottom-right corner to make it 1–1.
Suncroft continued to battle and created opportunities, but it proved to be one of those days where chances didn't quite fall their way. A little more luck around the box and the outcome could have been very different.
Newbridge eventually took advantage of the extra man, scoring twice more to secure a 3–1 victory.
Suncroft's effort couldn't be questioned. With only 11 players available, there was no opportunity to freshen things up from the bench, yet the lads kept fighting right until the end. The challenge became even greater just before the final whistle when Suncroft were reduced to nine men following a second sending off.
There were plenty of positives despite the result. Seamus Murphy put in an excellent performance up front and never stopped running, while Reece Doyle showed great determination at centre-back, battling through an injury for much of the second half.
⭐ Man of the Match: Eoin Deans
A superb performance in midfield, working tirelessly throughout and leading the fight despite Suncroft playing much of the game with reduced numbers.

A disappointing result, but plenty of character shown by the lads in difficult circumstances. We go again. 💚⚽
